“Sears AC's not what they use to be....”
Bought model 75151 in Aug 2008. Used it for 3 weeks to cool one room in my summer home in 2008. Removed the unit from the window and stored it in the bedroom for the winter. This year, 2009, I installed it in the wall where another Sears AC had died after 6 years use and two repair calls to Sears. All electrical related problems too. So far this year, 2009, the unit has been used for 6 weeks. The Warranty is for 1 year and now it has big problems. The electronic temperature control setting is broken. The unit runs without stopping no matter how warm I set the tempeture making the house into an icebox. After just 1 year and 1 week and only 9 weeks of use it is now broken. I now have experience with 5 Sears AC's that just don't make the grade any longer. Have a small 5,400 BTU unit that broke in 8 weeks use after just 2 years. I replaced the computer board for $54 and got it working again. But only for 3 more weeks of use in 2008 and the same board broke again. Just not worth replacing it any longer. I can buy a new AC from ***** or ****** for less than this is costing me. Sears electronic components in all their ACs I have owned over the past 10 years are just not up to the task. Bad power at the house? No, I keep all the AC's and TV's on isolation power strips and unplug them when not in use. TV has been working fine for 5 years but it is not Sears. I ordered today replacement computer board and Thermistor assembly for $35. I'm done with Sears ACs. That comment brakes my hart. I have always found Sears to be the best in the past. Maybe K-Mart is rubbing off on them and downing the products. I can no longer recommend Sears AC's to anyone. Wonder if all the Kenmore products are soon to follow?
