15,000 BTU Multi-Room Air Conditioner —
Initially I bought the 12000 BTU 75121. That smaller unit was defective when pulled new out of box. When its fan turned it was obviously hitting upon something inside the air conditioner, producing horrible noise. (So much for CR giving that unit one of its highest overall product ratings. Does anyone even care what CR rates anything anymore?)
OK, so I figured long as I was inconvenienced to return the defective 75121, I figured I might as well upgrade to the 75151. Lets hope that in the long-run the quality of the 75151 proves to be good. My initial perception is very positive.
I installed the 75151 and the entire family was amazed how quiet it was; however, there is a trick to reduce the vibration noise. Build a SOLID, flat (heavy duty wood, or steel) platform to completely support this monster from underneath when you hang it out your window. I'm talking about 2"x4" beams with 3/4" plywood construction. Then the trick is to remove the Styrofoam bottom of the shipping box and cut it down to the same footprint as the 75151. Then put that Styrofoam mat under the 75151 as you place it upon the support platform. Vibration is then taken up by the Styrofoam.
And WOW does this unit sure have massive cooling power. It is quite impressive when you fire it up, far more impressive in cool air output than the 75121 unit.
Check your window size before buying. This baby is 26" wide. Make sure you have a dedicated 15 AMP circuit for it. Make sure your extension cord (if used) is grounded 15 AMP or 20 AMP.
Also you gotta love this unit only draws about 12 AMPS, which gives you some nice operating margin when running on a 15 AMP circuit.
