A Child Called "It" —

A Child Called It was recommended to me by one of the Deacons at our church.  He is the chaplian for the police department.  I read it in one sitting.  The book would be a horror novel if it were not true.  It makes you cry because it is true.  I felt so helpless.

As an educator, I looked over the children I interacted with for several weeks to be sure I saw no signs of malnutrition, poor sleep, neglect, or abuse of any kind.  My heart did not want to believe that there are more children in our schools like the one in the book that went to school every day and was not noticed by teachers and administrators.

It is a must read as an awareness book for all those who interact with children.  We cannot be blind to the real needs and what happens to some of our children when they leave us.  The book is written from the child's point of view, in his own words.

For the love and salvation of our children, right here in the United States, possibly in your own backyard, please read this book.  Then take action if you can.

 Thank you.

Thanks! I had a hard time reading the first book. I had no way of getting to that mother and telling her to stop and take care of her c hild and treat him like a human being. I do not think I could handle any more. I may read a Man Named Dave, just to see if he turned out okay.

If you liked this book check out the others. I had a professor that required us to read all 3 of David Pelzer's books and they are all so heartwrenching. The series as they were released: A Child Called It, The Lost Boy, and A Man Named Dave. Also, his brother who denied the allegations of child abuse finally came forward and published his own story A Brother's Journey by Richard Pelzer. I haven't read that one yet. I generally don't like being told what to read but let me tell you--the first three books were awesome and in my field they were very helpful.
