AARP United Healthcare Supplemental Insurance —

I recently went on Medicare, and purchased AARP United Healthcare Supplemental Insurance.  I chose it, because my late mother had it, and no matter how major her medical problems and expenses, nearly everything was covered with this supplement.  You get a discount on the monthly payement if you let them take it directly from your checking account, and that saves you the responsibility of paying monthly and wasting a stamp.  In addition, you get discounts on eyeglasses, dental and medication if you frequent the places that are in their system.  Earlier this week I called in a refill on a nasal allergy spray to my Pharmacy.  When I picked it up I showed my Supplemental Ins. card, but they could not process it because there wasn't a RX # on the card.  So I paid full price of $59 for the prescription and left.  The next day the RX card came in the mail, so I went back a couple of days later to get the card in the system.  The Pharmacy REFUNDED the $59, and reissued the bill at $33, saving me $26!  I'm pleased with the RX card because it is NOT an insurance card but a discount card, but on this particular item saved me almost 1/2 of the initial amount of $59, which actually was less that the origianl price.  I HAD been using a competitor's RX discount card so the $59 was not the FULL amount of the prescription.  So I feel the AARP RX card is a real PLUS with the Supplemental by saving me money.    Hurrah for AARP United Healthcare Supplemental Insurance and their RX discount card!
