Lockedwater coming out from th a/c unit

Two question:

1.  Why is it that one unit will have a lot of water dripping out from it and another unit will have no water coming out at all (same building, same time)?

2.  This one unit will have water dripping on the outside most of the time.  But sometines, the water will drip out on the inside.  One time, the unit was running dry; after I turned it off, water started dripping on the outside.  Can anyone explain why?

Any moisture in the air being cooled, condenses inside of the machine, on the heat exchanger fins, while the unit is in operation.

Many air conditioners - like refrigerators, have the ability to evaporatively remove the water from the unit's drip pan, while the machine is running.

After the unit has stopped, the pan may become full of water, that will tend to "leak" out of an overflow tube or if the unit is not properly tilted backwards, INTO the room.

If there is not hole or tube coming from the back of the window AC unit, the plug may have been left in, relying completely on evaporative removal of the condensed water.

You may want to open the existing hole and supply a fitting and hose to direct the overflow water down to the ground.

Or, you can use a peanut butter jar, like we use for the Loss Prevention rooms air conditioner to collect the excess water.
