Baby Safety is a big deal. Depending on how much you want to spend, here are some great options.
The BabySafe monitor is the best monitor you hope to never hear. It is a pad that goes underneath the crib mattress and monitors movement, down to a heartbeat. If it senses no movement or heartbeat for 20 seconds a very loud alarm will go off. The idea is to help prevent SIDs. It comes very highly rated. Another idea would be the Safety 1st home safety 1st Safety Gift Set that includes everyhting you need from a monitor and gate, right down to outlet plugs.
If you want to give something pretty, then I would recommend one of the baby layette sets. One of my personal favorites is the Baby Aspen Welcome to the World Wagon and 10 pc layette set. It is available in both pink and blue.
