This is the first fridge we have ever purchased. We have been very satisfied with it. The pull out feature of the shelves has not been used like I thought we would. The ice maker has been a bit unreliable.........lots of cubes or none at all. Our kids hang out of it and it has withstood their abuse....

I purchased a bottom freezer Amanda in 2000. It took 2 days to reach temp of 40o. Each time I put a min of of product in the cold storage it raised the temp to 60o .
After several calls & 3 visits I finally called an outside vendor.
I did so since Sears emergency calls are usually 5 days wait.

As soon as this was delivered, the odd noises started. We called the manufacturer and they sent out a serviceman out - he said the noises are normal with this model, nothing to worry about. Well, just shy of 4 months after the purchase date, the compressor went. (I lost $200 worth of food that spoiled, which loss was not covered by the warranty.) After spending an hour on the phone, Amana finally arranged to send out another service person that day who determined that it needs a new compressor. (He compared it to buying a new car and finding out it needs a new engine after 4 months.) I called Amana...

I purchased in Dec 2007. I buy all my appliances at Sears. I have to say I have had very good luck with Sears repair service. This bottom freezer replaced a top freezer model. I was going to go with side-by-side but more recommendations for this model. After about a week I started hearing this clicking noise (it's hard to describe noises) I figured it's new it probably needs some time to break in. It did it at least 10 times a day. Finally I called Sears and they sent a repair guy out within a couple of days. He checked it out thought it was coming from freezer, explained how different they are...

Size and features are exactly what I was looking for in a second refrigerator (garage). Bottom mount freezer works well for storage of larger items (much better than a side-by-side). I use the refrigerator more than the freezer so I wanted it more at eye level. I rated features a little lower than excellent only because the shelves aren't "spill proof."
We've been really pleased with both the capacity of the fridge section and the functionality that comes from having the bottom freezer. We have had the freezer handle slip off a few times (likely a result of my tendency to always pull only one side of the handle) but it pops back on just as easily as it popped off. Overall, we're really happy with it.
We graduated from a fridge inherited from my grandparents - now we feel like we're living in luxury with the great features in this new one. Plenty of room for everything for our family, and a place for everything.
Overall, this product has done a good job but it seems not very durable. The inside liner of the freezer cracked soon after we bought it and one has to be gentle when pulling out the drawers in the freezer or damage will occur to the freezer interior. The compressor gave up its guts after four years. It is easy to clean and the shelves in the fridge are quite accommodating. Have been impressed with the overall layout of the interior; it allows for max utilization of the available space.
complete junk 6 years old and stopped working will never buy another amana product i would not recomend an amana product to anyone , my rating is a big zero
One and a half years after purchase the compressor went out. I replaced it under appliance store warranty. Now at 3 years and freezer does not freeze adequately and it leaks. My floor is buckling. I was told by my appliance repairman appliances are now made to last about 5 years and if you get more than that out of them your on a grace period. That's why the warranty period has gotten to be less and less. I'm at a loss as to what to do. I don't like the idea of paying $1400 for something that is only going to last 5 to 10 years. I've figured out what to do about a clothes washer...I'm purchasing...

The bottom freezer unit allows for more space in the crisper drawers for fruits, vegetible luncheon meats, etc. than the top freezer choices. The separate temp controls for top and bottom are great. This unit is a little noisier than some when cycling, but the convenience more than makes up for it.
this is the 1st bottom frezzer we ever onwed. So much room, and handy with everything in the fridge part right at your eye level. We get alot of comment's on it. Make's a little noise when running, but they say that is normal. Hope this amana hold's up, but one thing I can say for sure, we will allway's buy bottom frezzer's from now on. Way to go amana.
