LockedHelp finding washer

posted on December 18, 2009 at 11:44PM Inappropriate?

I have been trying very hard to read reviews, spent about a month trying to find the right washer for us. We cannot fit a frontloader, so it must be a toploading machine. Basically looking for these attributes, and in a pretty basic design. I can do without digital "computer boards" that need replaced, and automatic water sensing levels that are not always accurate. Seems like the more bells and whistles they come up with, is just more money to be shelled out later to repair.

Looking for:  Basic Dial Controls, 4.0 capacity, agitator, fabric softener dispenser, something under $600. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

When you say "4.0 capacity," the 4.0 cubic foot capacity is based on Energy Star-rated machines being measured with the IEC standard. Without the Energy Star rating (which is what you're saying you're looking for, really), the capacity will be rated at 3.5 cubic feet, but it's the exact same tub. It's a common misunderstanding, and will be less of an issue as the non-Energy Star machines phase out.

I bet you actually could fit a front-loader, though, depending on the model. Have you checked out Kenmore 48102/88042?

The best agitator model without the Energy Star rating is the Kenmore 600, or the comparable Whirlpool or Maytag models.

By the way, all washing machines are run on electronics. Just because you don't see a digital display or lights doesn't mean it's not run on electronics. :)

i will go check out these models you mentioned now..thank you for replying. because we have a bathroom door that has to open right next to the washer, we absolutly cannot fit anything with a depth over 27 inches. it will block the door from opening.

second, yes I know they all run on electronics, perhaps I should have actually chose my words when I was typing. what I meant was  that I read complaints with the fancy push button and digital read models.. lights going out on the panels..., error codes constantly comming up  and sometimes for no reason. just extra stuff that won't go wrong with a simple dial to turn.

Flat, split, or multi-toothed?

As a appliance repair service technician I like the top load direct drive washer manufactured by Whirlpool.

They are cheap and easy to repair and parts are easy to come by.

They also don't cost a arm and a leg to purchase new.

Just my thought... :)
