Ok, I'll jump in here:
First, sometimes appliances fail. That's just a part of life. It's unfortunate, and nobody wants it to happen, but there's no conspiracy involved. Stuff breaks down. I have yet to find a mechanical product that is 100% guaranteed to work perfectly no matter what for any period of time. Notice that warranties are not guarantees. There's a good reason for that! :)
Now, in order to narrow down what is actually happening with your washer, you need to provide some more detailed information. For instance:
When you say the machine "broke," what did it do or stop doing, or start doing differently?
Was the machine's failure gradual, or did it happen all at once without any warning?
Are you getting any error codes? If so, which one(s)?
Were you using high efficiency detergent (it will have the oval "he" symbol on the package)? If so, were you using the amount the manufacturer of the detergent recommends?
Were you in the habit of washing loads of extremely thick towels piled all the way to the top, or jeans piled all the way to the top, or packing garments in beyond a loose pile?
Do you know how hard or soft your water is?
With the answers to these questions, there's a much better chance of getting answers to your questions.
