LockedSears water heater power vent

Oh, sadness. Our 4 year old Sears power vent Energy Star Economizer 6 (how many descriptive terms do we need to describe a water heater?) has quit on me. Had the Sears maintenancy guy take a look, and he said it was the control panel. We cannot afford another $800-1000 to replace this water heater. Have been given an estimate that comes to around $700 to repair it. I really, really don't think 4 years is an adequate lifespan for a Kenmore product. :( My parents have some old generic gas water heater that's lasted them 15+ years. No, we didn't purchase the extended warranty, because we thought it'd last longer, and then we'd purchase the "on-demand" system. Suggestions, anyone? Sears was not sympathetic to us when we spoke with them about this.

Are you sure it's not under warranty? Last year I bought a cheap Whirlpool electric water heater and it came with a 6 year warranty on the tank and parts. Check the paperwork--I just looked on Sears.com and all the water heaters with 6 after the name have a 6 year warranty.

Strange...all the water heaters on Sears.com that have 6 in the name have 6 year warranties. The ones with 9 have 9 years and the ones with 12 have 12 years. What is this control panel exactly? Is it gas or electric?

Please look in the owners manual for the proper warranty.

If you call 1-877-800-5804 and provide the agent with the model and serial number of the water heater they can tell you all about the warranty coverage, Kenmore Power Vent water heaters have been sold with various warranties over the years the only way 100% tell what type of warranty coverage the heater has is by the model number. The number is toll free and connects you directly to the Kenmore water heater experts
