I didn't make the "trek" to my store.

We're work'n at cleaning our old refrigerator coils, cleverly hidden on the bottom of the unit.

:)

Seems to running much "smoother" now.

Tomorrow, I will be visiting the hardware store to get "the brush" (long coil cleaning deally) to really loosen the lint.

Followed by a Craftsman shop-vac cleaning.

Followed by another brushing.

Another vacuuming.

And, THEN... blower mode! With a dust mask on and the dogs safely outside.

Between cleaning rounds, I'm working at sharpening one of my Sickles.

:)

They still sell the specialized stones!

The extended 4th of July promotion " Hot Deals" and the F&F promotion night event made for an interesting sales pitch as a friend of mine who works on sales floor commented. The calculators were out in force!

Not only that, but lots of manufacturers have deep rebates. For instance, a Bosch counter-depth refrigerator in stainless retails for $2849, but after the 10% sale price, 10% F&F discount, $50 Energy Star rebate (MA residents!), and Bosch rebate, it came out to around $2100! The bargains were there for the taking. I had someone take advantage of the blue Oasis set at $1499 last night.

I bought a stainless steel dishwasher and range. Unfortunately Sears could not match the price on the stainless platinum Samsung 25.5 cu. ft. French-Door Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator I got for $1366.20

How could they not match the fridge? Was it a closeout or something? They could certainly price match, you just wouldn't get the additional 10% off, but you'd still end up with a lower price.

The people at my Sears store talked to the district manager a couple days ago and he said they could not match it

And it wasn't that price through being a closeout, or through rebates or other means?

It was 20% off for being energy star and another 10% off for military

Gotcha. The 20% part we could have matched the price to, but military discounts are not a sale price available to everyone, so it's not matchable. Enjoy it anyway, it's a nice fridge. :)

Who was doing a military discount, by the way?

speaking of discounts- well done by Lowes I must say.

perhaps thought should be given by Sears also  & apply the forgotten

"Senior citizen discount"

, as most may know, it is the seniors, who have instilled the Kenmore brand awareness to their children from years gone by and have past down the

"brand loyalty" to their offspring, such a marketing tactic coupled with endorsement of the AARP organization I believe would be quite beneficial to this age group and their siblings. a Marketing 101 approach applies and would be most welcome in these hard times to those of "fixed" incomes.

Your Sears Holdings corporate folks should put this on the table for discussion.

Sears has been doing Senior discounts lately. It may not be getting advertised much, but it's been there the last few months here and there.
