Okay! So I have had this smoker for 2 months. I waited to write a review because I am new to smoking and I am the kinda guy that feels if there is anything worth doing it needs to be done right. The first time I used the smoker option I was kinda disappointed. The stock thermo never broke 200 degrees. I found this odd and read other reviews with the same complaint. So, I did my homework online and found a site that would be a great help to any new smoker. Check out smokingmeatforums.com. There are lots of good folks to give you some tips. The tips I found helpful for this model are first of all check ur temps with a digital thermo. But, first test your digital thermo in boiling water. Water boils at a constant 212 degrees. Second, make a charcoal box. It will get you a hotter fire. Third, raise your grate that the charcoal box sits on. It will give you better air flow and again get you a hotter fire. Lastly, create a baffle/tuning plate out of the stock charcoal plate used for the barrel...

I bought this grill on sale for $100. Took it home, unpacked it and set all the parts out on my workbench. I kept looking for the assembly instructions, but couldn't find them. After a bit of searching through the packing material, I finally found the assembly manual stuck to the back of one of the cardboard filler pieces!

From that point to full assembly was exactly 2 hours, and I was working alone. Tools: 1 phillips screwdriver, 1 straight end screwdriver, 1 pair of pliers, 1 ten mm wrench, 1 ten mm socket/ratchet, 1 eight inch adjustable wrench, 1 hammer.

One thing to look out for is that steps 1 and 2 in the assembly manual are a bit unclear. Look at step 1. The FRONT of the grill is where you would stand to cook and open the grill lids. You should draw a persons face right after where it says 1 FRONT LEGS. This would be the cook standing in the cooking position. The four legs are a little tricky to get into the correct positions. The paint peeled a little on the first but I had it too hot as well so it was expected. Worked great though. Nice size because it's not too big but not too small. Did a great job on ribs and wings. Assembly was pretty easy.

After wanting a smoker for a long time,but not wanting a huge barrel in my back yard, I thought this one would fit my needs.Let me tell you,I was right! Like most I did my research, and even read the reviews here. Growing up in the South, the number one rule to smoking is "You smoke with wood and grill with charcoal". Most of the reveiws complained about the temperature, and all were using charcoal. Long story short,I bought one and it works great. Follow these tips:

1) Only use enough charcoal to start your wood on fire. About 15-18

2) Charcoal will never reach a continuos temp above 200 in the cooker if you're lucky. So don't waste your charcoal, just use enough to get the fire going.

3) Wood chips and chunks are great for a quick smoke cloud, even on top of a pile of charcoal,but still not enough heat.

4) I buy oak that people sell on the side of roads already split.Then I'll cut them in half, about a foot long and remove the bark. Now I 've got 10"-12" long logs about 4"-6" in...

I purchased the BBQ Pro Barrel Smoker with Offset Firebox from Sears this morning. I brought it home and got it assembled quickly. Putting it together was no problem. I immediately started a charcoal fire in the firebox and prepared the pork and tri tip roast with seasonings. I waited until the charcoal started to ash and turn white, then added some hickory chunks to the coals. I check on the temperature after about 30 minutes of cooking and the gage showed just under 200 degrees. I checked the damper on the firebox and saw that the opening was partially blocked with a lump of charcoal. So, I just stoked the coals a bit and added about 10 more briquettes to the fire. Now I'm cooking at 252 degrees. I think the thing to do is to keep the opening around the damper on the firebox as clear as possible and place your charcoal closer to the cooking chamber.

There is a few small issues that I have with the grill. The door of the cooking chamber could be a little more air tight. I'll get...

Try as I might, I could not get the temperature of the main cooking chamber over 150° with a fire built in the firebox. I've been grilling and BBQing for over twenty years- I don't think it was me. The grilling surfaces themselves are nice and heavy. The steel on the rest of the pit? Not so much- kind of thin with quite a bit of flex. I lost most of my smoke between the lid and bottom of the main cooking chamber on the side with the firebox. I really wish I had gone into the store and looked at the pit before buying it on line. Kind of a let down considering how excited I was over the first 'que of the season.

Did a lot of research looking for the perfect grill for my husband's Christmas present. After months of checking out the different options out there, BBQ Pro's particular style 'stuck out of the crowd.' Not only did it offer all I was looking for (i.e. style, height, surface area, attached shelf), it also fit perfectly into my budget even after taxes. When I mentioned height earlier, I was referring to how high it sits off the ground. My husband is 6' 3" and all the other grills similar to BBQ Pro's were about 4" shorter! This particular grill fits perfect so if you're ergonomic conscious then this is great for you! If you've been searching the world over looking for the perfect grill, your journey should stop here! The BBQ pro sign is upside down,fire box is too small it won't build up enough heat,thermometer seems to be incorrect

and the grate in fire box is not heavy enough after 1 use it's out of shape and won't last,no grease drain on main smoker

I treated myself to this grill this summer & used it for my annaul cookout. There's usually 30-40 people that come to my event & this year I got so many compliments on how tender & juicy the meats were. There's pleanty of cook space & the 'smoker' is great for keeping the heat in & cooking evenly. Best grill I've ever owned.

I have owned this particular bbq and love it. I recently went through a divorce and am buying a new one.

you can smoke a salmon in about 3 to 3.5 hrs in this unit. would recomend it to any one who loves to

The BBQ Pro Smoker Grill is one of the best purchases I have made in a long time. I had shopped around at other retailers and the big home stores with no luck. I walked into my K-Mart store and saw this grill. I made my mind up at that point to purchase the grill. I got it hame and within an hour I had it together, with my sons help. The next day I seasoned and cured the grill as I have done with all my grills. The first meal I prepared on my new grill were steaks and they turned out great. I would love to tell you that is because of my cooking ability, But alot of it was the grill. The grill for the price is consturcted vey well and I like the iron grates that came with it rather than the coated ones you generaly get when you buy a new grill. I am looking ahead to the a fall, and winter full of great grilling. (In Florida we can grill in the winter without a jacket/parka:) ) Anyway I just want everyone to know if you like to grill and smoke this grill is a must. Great price and good quality.......

I bought this grill in late fall/early spring for my husband's birthday. One of the kids and I put it together, which wasn't hard to do...you just had to follow the directions and keep the nuts and bolts loose until you placed the main barrel on the legs of the grill. I would recommend this grill - its pretty sturdy and I was delighted with the thickness of the metal. We are still getting the feel for using the smoker itself, but have had a lot of fun doing that.

The only problem I experienced was when I ordered the recommended cover. It was $10.99 and stated that it was for the 'regular BBQ Pro Grill'. At the time, even my local Sears rep was positive that THIS was the correct grill cover. It wasn't. As a matter of fact, that grill cover only fits the main part of the grill (no smokestack and no offset smoke box). This cover states a size of 30in X26in X38in when you get it. When I ordered, nothing had any measurements, so it sounded like the right one.... ...

This is the grill that I've been wanting to get for a long time. I'm glad that I purchased this one from Sears. At first, I was worried about all of the hardware not being in the box, it was. Then I was worried about putting it together. It was much easier to assemble than I thought. It's easier with two people, but I assembled it solo. A screw driver and pliers, that's it. Just read the manual and you'll be BBQing the same day. With smoker box, that's an added bonus. It's not too big or small, grills very nicely, not bad on clean up either....
