Most Helpful Critical Review

I recently purchased the BBQ Pro Barrel Smoker with Offset Firebox and was simply unsatisfied, and humiliated when I had to take the ribs off the grill and cook them in my oven after I got done bragging to all my guests what a great deal I got at sears.  This GRILL  does not perform as a barrel smoker...

I got this smoker as a father's day gift about 2 years ago and have used it probably 12-18 times since. Not sure why so many complaints about the temperature......using hardwood charcoal I have no issues maintaining a good 225-250......does require constant refueling because of a good amount of heat loss due to the thin metal but has worked fine for my 1st smoker. Have cooked chicken, ribs, turkey, sausage, pork butt...........all came out good.

Cons are very small firebox...... especially when compared to other smokers on the market for similar prices. Very thin metal......will lose heat...

People who are having problems listen up....all is not lost. smoking can be done many ways.

1. Offset fire using Wood, BULK charcoal (not briquettes) and time. 190 to 225 degrees constant.

2. Small fire of Wood and Bulk charcoal on One side of the barrel chamber in an aluminum tray, while smoking on the opposite side. 250 to 325 constant. Put water with flavoring under the smoking meat for moisture. (I made an amazing tri-tip with salt and pepper rub today over three hours and it was delicious.)

3. Build a fire with Briquettes and bulk charcoal ;put a roasting pan in with a v-rack and put wet...

This smoker is horrible had ribs on for eight hours and were still raw could not get heat above 150 degrees even with the side box glowing red from so much charcoal and wood in it please don't wast your time and money with this one RAW RAW RAW talked to manufacturer and they could not help after 4 times of cooking and having raw meat I took it back to sears who were really nice and helpful shop sears but don't by bbq pro!

Very well made for the price!

I have to say the first thing that I noticed was how sturdy and well made the body and hardware is made. I work on aircraft for a living, so I do have an eye for quality metal. I have a good feeling this BBQ will out last all my others! It does take some time to build it, but my wife and I had it built and ready in about an hour and a half. The instructions were easy to read, and very well written. I have used the BBQ quiet a bit and it has done very very well. I am pleased with this product. I recommend it. A quality product at a great price. It was a very nice fathers day gift to myself!

I love it

got this grill for Memorial day and took a bit to get used to it, controlling the heat was a bit tricky for me, but otherwise it's a great smoker grill for the money! cooked a pork loin everyone loved, burgers, steaks and my daughter in law just made 3 flavors of jerky on it that turned out as good as the stuff we buy up north!

good smoker

I have had this smoker for a couple of months and find it is very handy. The size is amazing! I have used it both as a smoker and as a grill. Smoking is great w/ this rig and adding coals is easy w/ the offset fire box. I have cooked several roasts and ribs and all have been great. I also used it as a grill er and was pleased w/ how much area I had to work with. 4lbs of wings was a full load. I takes a little getting used to to keep an even temp going for hours when smoking, using wood charcoal rather than briquettes has made huge difference. The grill is tall enough to use for "Beer Can" Chicken... read full review »

BBQ Pro Barrel Smoker--a Downer

It was the Memorial Day weekend and I was anxious to assemble and try out my new grill. The legs, which is the first part that you assemble, were wrong. It was labor intensive just getting all of the pieces back into the box to return to the store. My advice for any other buyers, pay the extra $20 and get it assembled by the store.

I bought the BBQ Pro Barrel Smoker with Offset Firebox on sale for $159.99.  Assembly was easy enough, good instructions, nuts/bolts labeled well. The instructions strongly suggested getting a helper, but one person can do it if you read the instructions first and take your time.  After it was assembled I was surprised at how sturdy it was for the price.  I used it twice so far.  As a barbecue, not bad -  I don't know if it was designed to be used that way.  As an indirect smoker, I couldn't get it hotter than 150 degrees (using charcoal and hickory chunks).  Pork ribs were near-raw after...

Super Grill

I would highly recommend this grill for a new griller-like myself-or a veteran griller. It makes your barbecuing experience even better. It's a sturdy grill with ample space. The smoker is a plus. Now I just hope it stands the test of time & meets my quality expectations because I plan to have this grill for a long time!
