I got this smoker as a father's day gift about 2 years ago and have used it probably 12-18 times since. Not sure why so many complaints about the temperature......using hardwood charcoal I have no issues maintaining a good 225-250......does require constant refueling because of a good amount of heat loss due to the thin metal but has worked fine for my 1st smoker. Have cooked chicken, ribs, turkey, sausage, pork butt...........all came out good.
Cons are very small firebox...... especially when compared to other smokers on the market for similar prices. Very thin metal......will lose heat...

1. Offset fire using Wood, BULK charcoal (not briquettes) and time. 190 to 225 degrees constant.
2. Small fire of Wood and Bulk charcoal on One side of the barrel chamber in an aluminum tray, while smoking on the opposite side. 250 to 325 constant. Put water with flavoring under the smoking meat for moisture. (I made an amazing tri-tip with salt and pepper rub today over three hours and it was delicious.)
3. Build a fire with Briquettes and bulk charcoal ;put a roasting pan in with a v-rack and put wet...

I bought the BBQ Pro Barrel Smoker with Offset Firebox on sale for $159.99. Assembly was easy enough, good instructions, nuts/bolts labeled well. The instructions strongly suggested getting a helper, but one person can do it if you read the instructions first and take your time. After it was assembled I was surprised at how sturdy it was for the price. I used it twice so far. As a barbecue, not bad - I don't know if it was designed to be used that way. As an indirect smoker, I couldn't get it hotter than 150 degrees (using charcoal and hickory chunks). Pork ribs were near-raw after...
