Any good suggestions for an entertaining idea for a soon to be 4 year olds birthday party?

I just had one of those!  We just went to a park that was less crowded than most.  They mostly ran around.  We brought some water balloons, played Simon Says, and a pinata.  Pretty easy for me, and the kids had a blast!

That sounds good.  He's been to so many "Pump it Up" parties that I know he won't care to go there... and that was the only suggestion I was getting.

since its summer, slip n slide might be fun for the party too :)

It is well worth the money to buy/rent one of those huge blankity-blank blow up houses/jumpers/water entertainment centers for the kids.  It keeps all of them so busy and they sleep so well that night and the night after.  WARNING.....you may have to break up a fight or two.  Other than that it is a HUGE hit, and the other parents will be jealous.

maybe a game, pinata, and a park. You can't lose with that!

If you son is not afraid of clowns, that's a sure winner... plus the pinata.

Hmm preschool age kids' attention spans might last anywhere between 2 - 15 minutes at a stretch. I'd think that a backyard party with balloon toss, simple outdoor/garden crafts, a little silly music and bite sizes food might be fun. But have some of the parents stay!
