Belhurst Castle - Geneva, NY, NY —
Niagara Falls from New England? With about an hour left to drive, this is the place to stop. One of the most romantic spots in New York State, Belhurst Castle is located in the heart of the wine region on the shore of Seneca Lake an hour west of Syracuse, 10 minutes south of the thruway. A wide variety of accomodations but a night in the castle is unforgettable, and there's always a wedding party to crash. Two restaurants, Edgar's offers more formal intimacy or the Stonecutter lounge for a "sandwich" on the terrace. Delightful free continental breakfast of fresh fruits and pastry. The Castle offers architecture of carved aged cherry, chestnut and rich mahogany, combined with mosaic-tiled fireplaces and a storied history as an illicit speakeasy & casino. The original 1880 blueprints are hung in the lobby. The gift shop features wine tasting of Belhurst's winery. Then off to the Romance Capital of America, Niagara.
