Best Western - Ft Dodge, IA —

The Best Western Hotel in Fort Dodge, Iowa was the cat's meow.  I have to say that because I went a little overboard to wine and dine the bride of 40 years at this location which I do once in awhile just cause I love her.  So this is a two fold review for the Best Western and the old Fort Dodge Museum and Fort.  After leaving Winterset, Iowa and Bridges of Madison County, we arrived early afternoon at Fort Dodge and were greeted by the sweetest receptionist ever named Martha.  I told her I want to sweep the bride of 40 off her feet and she told me she has perfect room for us.  It was a king size bed with all the bells and whistles to include a bath hot tub (oh boy and I will leave the rest to your imagination on that one).  It was just a tad over a hundred dollars, but well worth the stay on this trip and I accumulated a few extra points on my account for this one. After settling into the room, we were off to visit the old Fort Dodge.  It was only minutes away from the motel.  We arrived paid a very nominal fee for entrance and found a village plus an old fort to explore and wander around.  The first part was an old time town setting on a main street with about nineteen buildings (trading post, log home, school, cabinet shop, general store, drug store, newspaper office,  jail, blacksmith shop, livery, sutler store, restaurant, etc.)  It was just amazing walking into the past and going into these buildings and seeing all the antiques and old furniture and pictures.  My bride even put me in the old jail behind bars for a bit (see the pic).  After touring the town, we walked over to the old fort and toured that also.  A super blend of the past to include reading about the past commander who commanded the infamous Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg!!  The Fort also had a WWI and WWII display room to tour along with the western motif of all the other buildings.  It took about two hours to go through the whole old town, fort and museum, and the bride of 40 did do a little shopping the gift shop.  Then it was back to the great motel.  They have a super restaurant there called Buford's where we dined and wined to excellent food before going back up to super duper big room.  Now the lights are dimmed, the hot tub is turned on, the music is tuned to a very nice oldie station soft and gentle - uhhhhh I think that is all folks - time to end this review but it was just super.  Highly recommend a stop there in Ft Dodge:)
