I bought this trimmer after I had significant difficulty with a competing gas powered brand. This trimmer is super easy to operate, light, and really gets the job done in a timely manner. It has a little bit of trouble around curbs, but the string is easy to access. I am very pleased with this trimmer and will stick to the eletric models from this point on!

Was a bit excited thinking that since I had spent my money on the pricier model I would get a better performing, longer lasting trimmer. I was wrong!!!

The trimmers feeder was of low quality and the motor housng felt weak. I was determined to give it the benefit of doubt ,but after the trigger going bad and having to open up the motor and resoldering a loose connections to the motor twice I gave up after the trimmer would not spin at all. IT'S IN MY TRASH CAN NOW!!. Gonna check reviews for another brand. Again, not worth the money. Spend your $ on another brand.

It works really well, especially edging. The power to cut into dirt that was pretty hard was really good. I liked how light it is compared to my old Toro. It will take a little getting used to in terms of trimming as the power can cause some errors cutting, but once you get used to how light it is, cutting is a breeze.

I am very satisfied with my new Black & Decker 14" Grass Hog Trimmer/Edger because it is lightweight, easy to handle and gets the job done. This tool is highly effective in cutting through tough weeds and tall grasses in hard to reach, overgrown areas on my property. It is gratifying to see how quickly and easily "cleaning up" is achieved. While I've yet to either rewind my dual string spools or pop in a pre-wound replacement, I disagree with the comment that it "uses too much string." In my own personal experience, the autofeed is proving to be effective and efficient....

I have had this trimmer for almost 3 or 4 years now and i have never had any problems that the other reviewers have stated.my lawn consists of St Augustine very tough when healthy and this thing cuts it like butter. motor is strong & powerful.my trimmer was part of the recall for the spool cap mine has never flied off even with the old one installed no melted belts or gears.it is very easy to switch from trimmer to edger mode push the button on the handle and just flip it over and you're done and YES i highly recommend this product.................

This Black & Decker Trimmer is light weight, balanced well and powerful. My family loves it compared to the old one. Motor closer to the handle makes it more manageable instead of having the weight at the bottom. Great investment for yard work!!

I loved this thing (past tense). Very powerful. But first a belt broke not quite a year into the unit. I bought the replacement and installed. After another 2 months the black plastic gear melted. I hope they read the reviews and put a metal gear in instead of the plastic gear. Don't buy it unless they make that change.

The Black & Decker Grass Hog 14 inch electric string trimmer is very powerful and does a fantastic job. The downside to this version is that it has used up a lot of string. We had the same unit from 2004, and it did not go through as much string. Otherwise, this is a good unit. **************** also reported it very well in the 2010 rankings.

At the beginning, this trimmer worked fantastic until I started cutting some thicker weeds. The motor has lots of torque, but the gears in the shaft melted due to the heat buildup. They need to use metal gears to handle the powerful motor. What a shame! Excellent trimmer, until the shaft gears start working hard and fail.

This thing has a lot of power to get you through the tuff stuff. The autofeed works great, not have to bang it against the ground to feed out the line is a wonderful. The shape and style is good, feels right in your hands. It's a little heavier than my old one but I think that's the price you pay for getting all that power.

I bought this trimmer and put it in service on 4/5/09. I used it the eqivalent of less than once a month for light to medium duty trimming/edging around my house on about 3/4 acre of land for about 6 months last year, and used it only twice before today this year. Initially the torque was great. It seemed to use up the line pretty fast, but the cutting was good and I didn't mind that hassle or cost.

Today, 5/31/10 it quit running after about 10 minutes of light duty use. The motor runs, but doesn't drive the cutting head. I've read about failures like this and it's happened to me. I'll try the warranty service (says 2 years coverage) and see what it gets me, but really, 1 year 1 month and 26 days and it stops working? I guess that **************** "Recommend" and "Best Buy" isn't all that it's cracked up to be on the reliability front. Maybe B&D just isn't the way to go any more.

The trimmer worked fine for the first five minutes then quit feeding line. the ends of the line broke off inside and could not get them to feed again. I tried to have 0 stars but they made me put in one

My wife bought this trimmer a few weeks ago. Easy to assemble and light weight. She bought it to replace a B & D battery powered unit because the batteries don't hold up and cost almost as much as the trimmer. The first Grass Hog lasted almost an hour before the drive gear broke (or belt broke or whatever the universal problem is with this trimmer.) She took it back and got a replacement. The second trimmer lasted just a few minutes before the drive shaft broke again.

If the darn thing would work, it would be a nice product. It cuts very well. She has not had a problem with the auto line feed, but of course, the thing hasn't worked long enough to face that problem yet. I'm not sure if we will give it a third try or not. I doubt it.

Very disappointed with Black and Decker. Of course, these units are probably made in China - the land of "Almost right."

I used this great trimmer. Loved having the motor out of the grass so it wouldn't clog up and then burn up. But, after one and a half summers using the thing about twice a month it melted the drive gear and drive belt. Took it apart to see if it was just a broken belt. Nope drive gear was also melted. Went to B&D site for parts and none were to be found. Poor product design. Don't buy unless on sale under $50. Other cheaper grass trimmers last longer.

As many others have responded, I too purchased this product last year replacing an aging gas trimmer. Right out of the box I had issues with the head flying off and the spool going everywhere. I finally thought I had it figured out and it worked well until I placed in the edging position and poof, the head flew off again and the spool unwound. Tried to use it again this season and like most others, found that the belt had melted to the gear. Of course something was preventing from actually getting the cover fully off, so off to the junkyard it has gone. NEVER AGAIN BUYING B&D PRODUCT. I have learned my lesson. Still trying to find a decent electric trimmer....

We live on over 1/3 acre with a lot of landscaping which requires plenty of trimming & edging. This baby cuts a 2" rut without a lot of effort. It has good torque so you have to pay attention to what you're doing. I've been using this on the front/back yards for almost two months & am very happy with the performance....
