I loved this little machine. I have a campground site and it was perfect. It whacked everything in site! But (you knew it was coming huh?) a few weeks shy of 2 years, and only having used it about 5 times in two summers, the spool kept shooting off. I kept stopping to fix it. With this same run, it died.... read full review »

I got the improved orange cap model and like most of you here I really loved the power and the balanced design. Worked wonderfully the first few times. Then it stopped working. The motor ran but was not connected to the trimmer head. I took it apart (there are screws hidden under the black trim, you... read full review »

Black and Decker just lost all my confidence from years of trust. Only good reviews came from new owners with little use of trimmer. I didn't make it through my first spool before line feed problems. Went and purchased a second spool and before I got half way through the second spool the drive belt melted along with the drive gear. Unbelievable poor design. Just unbelievable. Didn't make it through 2 spools and the machine was burnt out and worthless. What a waste of money.

I bought this item last year and finally sold it in a rummage sale this year for $6.00. It kept kicking the string out on one side, so I tried to use one side instead. The vibration was terrible and it melted the guard right off. I wouldn't buy this ever again. I always trusted BD, but this item broke my confidence in them.

I bought this last year - used it twice and bottom cover to the spool kept coming off....... This year used it the spool kept coming off then i figured out a trick , if I stop the weeding i check the bottom and push it back in , it worked for a while but unfortunetly the cover at bottom flew off never too be seen again , waste of my time and my sanity throwing the whole thing out instead of buying a new bottom....

We live on over 1/3 acre with a lot of landscaping which requires plenty of trimming & edging. This baby cuts a 2" rut without a lot of effort. It has good torque so you have to pay attention to what you're doing. I've been using this on the front/back yards for almost two months & am very happy with the performance.

I bought this last year, pre-spool redesign. I had to wait for the new spool to arrive from the company, which wasted a good chunk of the summer. After that it was never balanced right and would vibrate like mad. This year in the middle of the first use the belt or gear apparently melted or broke as in other reviews. Spend the extra money and get a better trimmer. I have always trusted B&D but will always read reviews before purchasing again.

As many others have responded, I too purchased this product last year replacing an aging gas trimmer. Right out of the box I had issues with the head flying off and the spool going everywhere. I finally thought I had it figured out and it worked well until I placed in the edging position and poof, the head flew off again and the spool unwound. Tried to use it again this season and like most others, found that the belt had melted to the gear. Of course something was preventing from actually getting the cover fully off, so off to the junkyard it has gone. NEVER AGAIN BUYING B&D PRODUCT. I have learned... read full review »

Design defect in the line spool/feeder. No, this isn't the black spool ....which resulted in the factory recall. This is the "New and Improved" orange spool. Equally defective. Returned for a full refund. Back to the drawing board B&D. Replaced it with a Toro which costs less and actually works!

To be honest, I have no idea where these bad reviews are coming from. This thing eats through everything including thick English Ivy and the cord does autofeed. I suspect many people here are not feeding the cord properly when resupplying the unit.

This products is extremely disappointing. First I was duely impressed with the features and the power of my grasshog xp, then three months later the drive belt slipped or broke. I was able to find replacement belts easy enough, bought two for the next time. Then I tried to access the belt to see what I could do. After removing way too many screws I was still unable to access the belt, in the process a plastic shaft fell out I'm not sure from where and I am going to purchase another edger. Definitely not a Black and Decker. Before this one I had a Craftsman for about eight years, this one lasted... read full review »

Do not buy this product. It looks good, plenty of power, has all the features but will not trim your lawn. I have been trying to make this product work for a couple of months. I use it for trimming my sidewalks and around my flower beds. It will trim less than a ten foot length until the spool cover flies off and spins itself as much as 30 yards away and the spool falls off. Simply starting it can cause the spool to fall off. To get it running I have to tap the starter to start it slowly or it will thhow the spool cover off. Try another product-this one dosn't work.

On my GH1000 the string does not advance. This makes my second GH1000 trimmer after swaping it out with the dealer. I have to take the cap off and manually pull the string for it to work. Please black and decker redesign the trimmer. I plan to purchase another brand trimmer. For now, I do not recommed for the consumer to purchase this model.

This trimmer is the biggest piece of junk the safety shield melted off when the head got to hot. The string head flies off, and if you get in a spot less than the 14"cutting diameter the string will un spool and get tangled around the head. I sent Black & Decker an E-mail stating my troubles and they never replied back!
