Easy and convenient

I hate trying to start garden equipment by pulling a string! This takes the hassle out of trimming. This has 2 batteries and comes with a charger. The battery doesn't last a long time...about 20 minutes?...but you can quickly exchange to the  second battery & continue. I usually am tired by that time...

This line trimmer is great for maintenance trimming of my lawn.

Battery powered trimmers are not strong enough to knock down thick grass or overgrowth.

I work with battery powered tooling, and 15 minutes of constant use on a NICAD battery is average, no matter what the brand. Also battery recharge life...

Black & Decker 18 V Cordless Trimmer and Edger Reviews

The Black & Decker 18 amp cordless trimmer is not a bad trimmer for the price. My wife did not like the gas powered trimmer that we had (she said it was too loud and she didn't like smelling like an outboard motor when she was done), so she had me buy this one so she could help around the lawn. It was easy to put together and, after the initial battery charge, was easy to get going. It goes through most grasses, even longer ones, but gets bogged down with much more than that. The battery lasts 20-30 minutes, and even shorter with thicker grasses. It is definitely a plus that it comes with... read full review »

Loved it; now hate it.

The first year, I loved this. It was light, easy to use and as adjustable as I needed it to be. 2nd year, battery does not hold a charge long and the replacement spools are cheaply made and break easily. I'm not sure why Craftsman quality has declined so much over the years, but I cannot afford to purchase any more Craftsman products. I've had 3 Craftsman trimmers in 5 years and they all have the same problems. Plus, each one has a different style, yet same sized battery. Why can't Craftsman standardize their batteries and make them last longer, like lithium? I'm finished buying Craftsman!

Tough on weeds

The Grasshog replaced my old Black and Decker 12 volt rechargeable trimmer. With 18 volts, it has more power and the added feature of rotating the trimmer into an edger. The auto feed spool eliminates tapping. It comes with 2 batteries. One battery will cover about half my property, so it takes both to do the entire yard. It would be nice if the batteries charged up faster, but it's not a big deal.

I've owned this edger/trimmer for almost two years -never had a problem!

I'll get the ONLY CON out of the way -The Battery: the battery allows me to edge and trim my entire front yard -but I have a small yard.  If you have thick grass that hasn't been trimmed on an average sized yard -you'll need two batteries.  Now the PROs -- Since I have other models in this line (22" hedge clippers, etc.) I have three batteries and two chargers.  The chargers are small and don't get in the way -same for the nicely sized batteries.  I replaced my old B&D 12V edger (which lasted ten years) with this...

I bought a gas powered whacker for my mother a few years back. It takes attachments, of which she has several. She loves it. Unfortunately, she injured her shoulder a while ago, and has a difficult time pulling the starter rope.

She was pleased to receive the battery powered model, as she has been hiring a local boy to whack her weeds after she mows. It should fill in nicely for the regular trimming, and she still has gas power for brush cutting.

Prior to owning this trimmer I had only had electric trimmers and so the freedom of being able to go wherever I needed without being tied to an electrical cord is terrific!  I also like that it has two batteries  so one can be charging while you're using the other.  I've used this trimmer close to flower beds and near chain link fences and never had a problem with it getting tangled or cutting where it shouldn't.

It's lightweight and easy for a woman to handle and adjusts to the users height.  The fact that it feeds automatically and doesn't need to be bumped is a great feature.  I really...

Good little trimmer

<p style="text-align: left; padding-left: 30px;">I bought this trimmer because it is adjustable in height, lightweight (I'm 5"1"), and cordless.  (No struggles with pulling on a cord 50 times to get it started; no fumes!!)It came with 2 battery packs and a coupon for another that I sent in and got in a couple weeks.  This is very handy because I do use at least two batteries to get the job done.We have about 100 ft of fencing that I trim weekly, and misc. trimming around, the house, a small garden and trees on 1/2 acre.I would call this a "light duty" trimmer. Although, last weekend, I successfully... read full review »

Purchased 05/03/09 for $99.99 plus tax.  We received a free battery with the purchase which made it nice.  My wife wanted this cordless trimmer so she could use it as well.  The handle adjust to her arm length.  The charge stays going longer than I expected.  Good value and handy aroung the yard.

My old battery line trimmer no longer held a charge - most of last summer as well. So I checked out both the battery and gas powered models on this site and others. Without fail, all the gas models had many owners complaining about difficulty starting after some period of time. That, plus the great ratings (and price) of this B&D trimmer, and I decided to pick this B&D up last weekend.

This one comes with two batteries. They're surprisingly small - much smaller than the old Craftsman I replaced. The trimmer, even with the battery, is very light. Even though it's light, it's very powerful. I have...

Ok, this is the most amazing trimmer I have handled in a long time.  No gas to worry about & no cord to drag all around!  I have a huge yard and do lots of trimming and it just goes and goes!  I love the fact that it comes with 2 batteries so one can always be on the charger and ready to go.  Very easy to start and what I love best about it is the fact that has an automatic string feeder.  No banging it on the ground or tipping it over and pressing in a button to get more string to come out.  It just knows when you need more string and automatically dispenses it!  I love love love that feature! ...

Had mine about 2 years now and the batteries take over 5 hours to charge, each.  I think they are past their useful life.  And it doesn't run for more than 5 minutes now and needs a charge.  So it is cheap but limited: limited power, limited run time, limited useful life.  For small yards and no weeds, it works great for a year.  Just throw in a battery and go.  However, for cutting tall grass and larger yards (say half acre or more) it won't last long.  I'm going back to gas powered.

I bought this to replace a middle of the road Craftman gas model which had become difficult to start.  I had all the same misgivings that many report.  I have used it through a complete season, and I am very satisfied.

My house sits on a third of an acre.  Most of my trimming is in front: along the neighbor's fence (his backyard is adjacent to my side yard) and around my beds and trees.  In the back it is around beds and a bit of fencing, but a large portion of the back yard is wooded and does not get trimmed.

I find that power is adequate.  Yes, it could have more power, but I find that a...

Does what it needs to do

I love my Black and Decker Weed Whacker. It is so easy to use! It doesn't have a cord, so you don't have to worry about cutting the cord. It doesnt take gas, so theres not worries of making the right mix, or buying the gas. Plus you don't smell like gas when you are done! It works well on almost everything I try to cut. The only draw back is the charging time and battery life. When the battery dies, it dies QUICK! Make sure you charger it for a good 36-48 hours ahead of time!
