After getting a letter from our home-owner's association that our lawn was not properly edged (we had been using a string trimmer to edge), I researched several dedicated edgers. I chose this one because it has a trenching option, which I also needed! This edger is so easy to use, I can use just one...

Most Helpful Critical Review

Used it one season on a large city lot, front only.  Went through one blade, then motor burned out.  You really had to work to feather this one through the first edge job, but had adequate (barely) power to edge after that.  Tried one of these after my 3 1/2 hp gas edger frame broke, and the electric...

Black & Decker Electric Lawn Edger Reviews

Got the job done

During the spring, we purchased our first Black And Decker Edger, and got one that was cordless. We found that the battery pack wasn't giving us enough power for our yard, so we returned it and got this item. It didn't appear that our new yard had been edged for quite some time, so we needed something with ample power. This edger did cut through all of the weeds and over growth, but we did have to go over it several times. Since then, one time was sufficient, if we did it weekly. We haven't had any problems with our edger.

I have a small yard, so the idea of mowing my lawn the way I vacuum the house - tethered to a power cord - doesn't bother me. I felt the same way about an edger.

My lawn hadn't been edged in years and was growing over the sidewalk. I was a bit worried about using an electric edger for cleaning up the edge for the first time and even considered borrowing my neighbor's gas powered edger to tackle the task. I even bought an extra blade in case the one that came with the edger wore out during the first cut. It turned out that my worries were for nought. The Black and Decker 11 amp Electric Edger...

It's not great it's good. The sight line needs to be more defined so you can edge in a straight line. The middle of the shaft feels loose, they could fix this with an extra bolt or a grove on the tube. The machine save money and i will keep using it for years.

Very disappointed with this item. Ended up returning it. Did not have enough power to do what it was supposed to do.

Decent performance.

It doesn't have a lot of power, but it gets the job done. You really need to be patient when a lawn gets edged for the first time. My soil was very compacted but it still did the job. When I hit difficult spots I just rocked it until I got through the soil. I don't really care for the way the handle is ergonomically, but it did get the job done. the angle on the handle is so shallow that you can't easily push it down to lift the blade off the ground. I will be more careful about handle design on my next purchase.

Great Machine

I am new to doing yard work... Honestly I didn't know how I would be able to edge because I have felt how heavy some of these edgers are. Well the edge hog is great. It is so light I can even handle it. Also, I was amazed at what a great edge it gives my yard. Other neighbors come over in envy and ask what I edge with. I definitely will buy another one when this one stops working.

I orginally ordered a cordless edger/ weed eater combo. I really liked it but the battery life was terrible and I wasnt able to get all of the edging and weeding done in one batter use.  Next I bought and electric edger/weed eater because I like the two in one concept.  I thought it would work the same as the cordless one.  Um, no it turns out it did not edge nearly as good as the cordless.  So now I have a cordless that cant hold a charge more than 15 minutes and a two in one electric  that only does a good job weeding.  Everyone keeps asking why I just didnt get the gas powered and be...

Easy to Use After You Get the Hang of It

I found this product to be very good after I got the hang of it. I am a 50ish woman who has no real yard experience & used this for the 1st time last weekend. After I figured it out, it did an excellent job of edging my grass. Wore out the blade due to not having prior edging experience. Will replace blade soon. Highly recommend it for those who wish to have a well edged lawn.

Lightweight

Easy to use and nice and lightweight. Cut through grass in both sandy soil and packed dirt. Moves as quickly as you can push it in our yard. We used the trenching (2" depth) where the grass and mulch were really uneven to get a cleaner edge. OK for the average homeowner, certainly wouldn't rate it heavy-duty but it does a decent enough job. Much, much less work than the old manual edger.

My first experience

I'm a bit over 40 years of age and watched neighbors use these from time to time; however, I was raised doing this to the lawns manually. But it never had the crisp cut of a machine. Well, just one swipe of the front lawn and I am amazed I didn't do this sooner. This product is very easy to put together and understand. It even comes with a guide to place between the concrete and the lawn to keep you on track. Recommend starting on the 1 inch setting for ease of cutting for the first time and saving the blade over time. All in all, a good machine with a good warranty!
