Blue Cross / Blue Shield —

Both my husband and myself had some seriously high medical bills in 08, his for 3 ambulance calls and one surgery, mine for an ongoing unexplained illness - including numerous testing etc. We have the high deductible CCO plan but all in all, out of pocket expenses are no more than $4500.  After seeing the charges of what we COULD have had to pay, this is nothing.  We will take loans to pay this amount but we could have been stuck with a lot more.  Once we reached our max out of pocket what I liked seeing was the $0.00 due by individual on the EOB's time and time again for the second half of the year.  Knowing after the fact that everything was covered free of charge as long as it was in network for the remainder of the year was a weight lifted off.  BCBS did not have us go get referrals, no hassle for pre-certification for hospital stays etc.  They made it very simple for us and with what we were going through that was a big stress taken off.

You would think with all of that we would have gone with a regular HMO this year with a much lower deductible but we decided to go ahead and take our chances and stay with BCBS CCO plan again this year due to their service from last year.
