I am just wondering if anyone knows any good books.  I am a real bibliophile.  I love most everything but my passion seems to be childrens, teen, and young adult fiction.  I am a 2nd grade teacher who is always recommending books to friends and strangers where ever I go.  Please feel free to let me know what you think.

Happy Reading

Hi KristineMarriott! I am actually in the middle of reading The Shack by William P Young, which is a little bit sad but overall a great read so far. I also love to read and would love to know of some books that you would recommend.. I enjoyed reading some of the reviews you posted on a couple!

Thanks Courtney,

I will have to go check out The Shack.  Here are some books you may like.

Artemis Fowl (I think there are about 5 books in the series--I lost count--but it is wonderful)  It is fantisy and sci-fi put together.  The main character, a 10 year old genius, has found a way to rejuvenate his families fortune.  It involves Holly of the LEPrecons (a special fairy task force), a centaur, a body guard and lots of high tech gadgets.  Artemis is the "bad guy" but you are torn as to which side you want to win.

Smoke Jumpers A book about two men (and a girl friend--names of whom I have totally forgotten) who jump out of planes to put out fires, and the tragedies and miracles they encounter throughout their life.  You will really love all the characters in the story.  There is romance, action, tragedy, and humor in this story.  I have read it several times and I am ready to read it again.  Warning: this story has some four letter words, and some sexual content.  I would not recommend it to children or teens.  If you don't like that yourself you will want to either skip over those short scenes or skip the book entirely.

In the teen section of the library there are several books that are books that explain the fun fairtales of our youth.  Such as Rumpelstiltskin, Repunzel (the book title is Zel), and Beauty and the Beast (one of the books is called Beauty and the other is something to do with a Rose.  These stories are creatively told and well worth the read.  Great for teens and adults.  Ella Enchanted and Just Ella are Cinderalla stories you will totally enjoy.  (Just Ella is version that tells the story like it really happened.  It is realistic.)

Poison Study is a four book series for adults.  It is fantasy with romance and action intermixed.  I loved the first three books.  The fourth wasn't as well written as the first.  But it gives the stories a good Happily Ever After.

If you want more let me know.  I think these will get you started.  I am excited to go find The Shack

Talk to you later,

Kristi

(P.S.  Sorry if I misspelled anything or made any minor mistakes--There is a reason I teach 2nd grade.)

Hi I can tell you that my daughter loved the "Twilight Series" along with all her cousins.
As for me, my favorite was from a few years ago "Broken For You" by Stephanie Kalas
(not sure of her last name) she was on a soap before she started to write and this is her first book.  I hated to have the book end.  It was just so good.

Hi beachs! I just saw the movie, Twighlight. Although I wasn't entirely impressed, I have heard the book is much better! Maybe I will have to give that a try.

If you havent read the Twilight series you must!  I didn't think the movie was very good but the books are just wonderful.

Make sure you buy the first two books or the bookset.  They're a very fast read.

I loved, loved, loved The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin, Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt, Henry Sugar by Roald Dahl and Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson.

Most recently, I stole my brother's copy of Flipped by Wendelin Van Draneen, and I have to say that I bawled through the whole thing!

I personally much preferred the Harry Potter series over Twilight -- JK Rowling did not sell books because she wrote badly.  Not to say that Stephenie Meyer is a terrible writer -- the fundamental plot of Twilight, the lesson of restraint, is a solid theme -- but I just felt she could have done more with it.

I agree about the Twilight movie.  Loved the book, not so crazy about the movie.  I've also heard really great things about that Artemis Fowl series, though I haven't yet read it myself.

My favorite book of all time is Island of the Blue Dolphins. It's a YA book about a native girl who gets stranded on an island alone and has to take care of herself, hunt, fish, gather, etc.  It was a Newberry Award winner like ages ago.  My gramma bought it for me when I was about 10 and very ill. I still read it every year when I'm not feeling well and it takes my mind off of things. Love that book.
