There are some really great catalogs out there that, although carrying mostly specialty items, have some fascinating products inside of them.

Well, the Craftsman Tool Catalog, of course, would be numero-uno...

Some people even "collect" the old ones.

I hear tell of one person who has them ALL.

Me, I've only got a two-drawer filing cabinet full of um...

For books on Early Tools, Trades and Technology, it would be hard to find better than, The Astragal Press, at astragalpress.com.

Why they even have clothing!

We used to have an actual Edmund Scientific outlet in the area.

That was one weird store!

I loved it.

I also had an opportunity, many years ago, to visit a Lafayette Electronics store.

It was on a whole different plane of existence, than an average Radio Shack store.

The Lee Valley Tool catalog is just awesome for clever hand woodworking tools.

Not only do they carry many of the old pattern hand woodworking tools, their Veritas woodworking tool brand adds added Engineering to the tools.

Well worth a looksie.

Lee Valley also has a very interesting Gardening catalog, that includes many fascinating hand tools for gardening and lawns keeping.

Would you believe a black-berry trimmer?

I used to love going through the Brookstone Hard-to-Find Tools catalog.

That's where I got my precision spot-oilers, before Sears started carrying them.

I believe the oilers are gone from Sears now.

"Oil?"

Exactly...

Lee Valley also has a "Hardware" catalog.

And, what a catalog it is!

That bad boy is almost 3/8 inches thick!

That's a lot of cabinet knobs, handles, slides, hinges, shelf supports, hand-forged hinges, trunk parts, wooden tool box parts, locks and such.

A little-known fact is that many drawer knobs can form the basis for some extremely awesome bolos...

I just got my latest Klockit catalog in the mail.

This is a source of fantastic Clockmaker's supplies.

Movements, faces, hands and quite a few fascinating kits are available for almost anyone to make their own unique-looking clock.

For me, it's mostly Shop Clocks (big surprise).

While Sears does a really great job of supplying 10 inch diameter Circular Saw bladed clocks, I also "needed" a 7-1/4, 5-1/2 and a 3-3/8 inch bladed set of Shop Saw clocks.

Klockit supplied the movements and hands...

While I had my PMT workshop setup, I had the here time (West Coast), Mountain, Central and East Coast times to help me with all of the various support questions.

Now, all the clocks are here with me at home.

Great catalog at www.klockit.com.

There's a new Sears Holiday tool catalog out "virtually" over to the Catalog section of the Sears.com site.

They got a bunch of new tools, for holiday gift giving.

Hopefully, someone will be sending me the paper version of this catalog.

It's had to Post-It note the computer screen.

And, the screen keeps "changing"...

I actually ordered a "real" Sears Holiday catalog.

Paper!

By the time I get it, all of the items inside should be properly set up and the ones "available for store pickup" will be actually available at the store, for picking up.

Excellent...

The new Lee Valley Tools catalog is out, and delivered to my home.

Now, that there has a LOT of excellent hand woodworking tools.

There's a whole lot of planes out, this year.

Affordable, high-quality planes.

And, if you got a plane, you NEED some sharpening tools.

And, while doing the final fitting work, that sharp planes do, you're gonna need some precision measuring and marking tools.

The circle of tool using life!

We just stumbled on a GREAT source of U.S. Cast-iron cookware.

I got my wife a requested cast-iron dutch-oven from Sears, made by the Lodge Cast Iron Manufacturing Co.

In the box, came their catalog No. 12 of Cast-iron Kitchenware, Campware & Accessories.

It is a fantastic little booklet, that seems to pretty much have all things cast-iron.

Their website is lodgemfg.com.

There are even cookbooks on "cooking with cast-iron" in the catalog.

Got a flyer from the Lie-Nielsen Toolworks folks.

They got a 14 inch low-angle Jack Plane for only $245.

Ouf...

Fortunately, I got my old original Stanley No. 62 low-angle Jack Plane.

But, I do have a Lie-Nielsen No. 164 low-angle Smoothing Plane.

These are not inexpensive, but excellent value vintage design planes, along with some very impressive modern improvements in material and manufacturing techniques.

They can be found at lie-nielsen.com.

I found an old GarretteWade Tool Catalog, while "straightening" around the workshop.

Would you believe 2004?

Oh, yaa...

I keep the old tool catalogs.

The garretwade.com site is still very much "UP".

I ordered/requested myself a brand new paper catalog (don't like virtuality as much as "paper").

Lee Valley Tools sent out a little flyer version of their catalog.

There are some intrigueing woodworking tools.

The economy must be improving, some of the items in the catalog were fairly expensive items.

Fortunately, I already own a lot of the tools, including similar "Shoulder Planes".

Sears's Wish book for Christmas 2009 is out, at the store, now.

And, it has some tools in it!

Look for the red covered catalog.

I just requested a Wish book catalog, from the Sears.com site, for my very own use.

Sears has got an October 2009 Smart Kitchens catalog, to the store.

There's a big'ol red, 90th Anniversary edition Kitchen Aid mixer, right on the front of the catalog's cover!

Nice...
