I go to Sears auto centers alot. when im on the road all my vehicle maintenance gets done by them. their $15 brake evaluation is NOT a visual brake inspection. they do visual brake inspections when wheels are off. i was up by chicago and my brakes started squeling. i went to sears the next day. the customer service guy recommended the $15 dollar inspection. i did it. i watched through the window and what i got for $15 was a steal. he took off all my rotors, pads, and calipers. measured the rotor in like 6 or 7 different places. measured my pads (which i knew it was my pads, i hadn't had them replaced in awhile). checked my calipers, brake lines, and did their under the hood checks. $15 was cheap. when the tech got done he came and told me that everything but front pads were good. (i occasionally like to play the i know nothing about cars act to check out how well trained the person is that is working on my car) i asked why my front pads needed to be replaced and not the back ones too. he answered correctly with the front brakes do the majority of the braking. then continued to inform me that it was a good thing i came in as soon as i heard it squeling because once the brake pads get too low the rotors will get ruined too and a preventable repair would have became a neccesary repair of replacing rotors with the pads. the customer service guy told me since i decided to get the work done there the $15 charge is waved. what a deal!
