I received this "immersion blender" as a gift (after making a specific request!) because it was so great for mashing potatoes (with a whisk attachment) at a friend's house, However, I've mostly used it for puree-ing vegetable soups right in the pot--you don't have to cool the soup as much, and you don't have the messy job of ladling or pouring the soup into a blender canister and then out again. The one I got has a chopper cup attachment instead of a whisk. It's also useful--but I'd still like to have that whisk. On Thanksgiving I steamed pumpkin chunks and then pureed them in the pot for pie....

this blender is the greatest thing.  You can whip up a milkshake for your grandkids,rinse it off and cream some homemade soup for dinner all in just minutes.I wanted one for a long time.I love it. I use it all the time.Its also great for making salad dressings.
