GoGREEN!

We are going green at our house (actually, we've been green for a long time, we're just kicking it up a few notches), and we really like this water filter for the refrigerator from Brita. Not only do we have excellent-tasting and clear water to drink in a minute, we are no longer purchasing bottled water... read full review »

The water tastes great, BUT.....

we have had to replace this filter every 6 to 8 weeks since we purchased the refrigerator. We were told that the filter should last 5 or 6 months. So every 2 months we have to spend almost $45 at the Sears store to replace the filter. Now we are a family of 5 and we do drink lots of water and coffee,... read full review »

Brita Refrigerator Filter Replacement for... Reviews

I thought this was a cheaper Brita alternative to the original Kenmore filter and I bought the Brita refrigerator filter online. When I got the Brita filter, I checked the claims of the filter. The original Kenmore filter removed a huge list of chemicals like benzene, toxaphene etc. This Brita filter did not have any of that capabilities. Plus, the Brita filter clogged within 6 weeks. The original Kenmore branded filter used to last for almost a year. I researched a bit more and I found that Brita filter was not even designed originally to work with these refrigerators. They simply fit and so,... read full review »

I assume this is the filter I've been using since I bought my KitchenAid in about 1999 or 2000. For a long time I replaced it every time the light in the refrigerator told me to, but I've stopped doing that.

Why? I asked a Sears repairman about it and he said I should change the filter only when the water tasted bad or its quality began to decline. Makes sense to me, since I grew up drinking water out of a hose or (horrors!) a well sometimes.

I now use the filtered water to refill bottles.

I have a Kenmore Coldspot refridgerator, and this water filter works great with it. Though difficult to find in-stock (always available online), it's nearly $10 cheaper than the Kenmore brand water filer. As far as I can tell it is just as good and lasts as long. Can't really beat it!

Great value

We have a KitchenAid refrigerator and are very pleased with this filter. Works just as well as the manufacturers filter, but a little cheaper! Would definitely recommend.

Brita does it again

I was surprised when I received my Sears filter replacement and it was a BRITA filter. But, once I installed it, it quickly met my requirements (easy installation and good, clean water) and lived up to my other BRITA products, like my counter-top water pitcher. Thanks Sears and Brita! Sam

Good product at a good price.

This unit performed quite well on our KitchenAid unit. It is a good substitute for the manufacturers filters and yes price does become a factor. I rather pay the $40 less a year in replacing this filter and be able to get an additional filter for the year than spend more for the exact same thing from KitcenAid. Honestly its a good product at a great price.

water filter

I do not feel this is a good filter. I am spending 150.00 a year for this filter and It should last longer that that. I think they are to expensive and need changed to often. Our water is very good and tests ok each year and that filter should last longer that 3 months or even 2 months. Please advise

Brita vs PUR

Sears used to carry the PuR filter and this is the one that is sold now. The sales guy said that the Brita was better and was the same price. Well, not true, as the PuR filter is both a mechanical and chemical reduction filter and passes both ANSI /NSF Std. 42 As well as ANSI/NSF 53 for the reduction of lead, mercury, cysts, turbidity, asbestos, benzene, P-dichlorobenzene, toxaphene, 2,4-D, and atrazine. We called Brita and the Brita filter is not tested to the chemical standard. For "the same price" I know which one I would rather buy.
