We carry Mini DV camcorders ~ for instance the Sony Handycam HC52
$249.99

03/56028

Though finding a converter is near impossible so you would probably have to get one of these as well.

Sony Direct Dvd Recorder ~ 03/53948 $199.99

This will allow you to convert and burn your recorded media to a dvd disc.

yes, in 6 and 8 hours--try Walgreens, Fred Meyers, Rite Aid.  Biggest problem is getting them to record if you have to use a digital box with your TV--

When I was a young un we had tapes as big as my foot that we used to record movies with. We did not use megabytes to record on we used tape. Can you believe it we were such cavemen back then. You should see my collection of VHS and 8 tracks, it fills up my museum. Ahhh the good old days.

When i was young we had 4 minute rolls of kodachrome that took a week to get developed and you made your own sound. None of this 120 or 240 mhz, twenty four frames per second... and proud of it!

I remember when "home movies" were limited to around 15 minute of 8mm or Super 8 film.

Now, the movie cameras have "hard-drives" capable of recording HOURS of video.

Who has friends that could POSSIBLY want to watch THIS MUCH of someone else's vacation?

Not my friends! But I think that having the ability to take hours and hours of video just makes for a better final video, as we all know we don't always want to use all of our footage. With today's software and comuters it is getting easier and easier to compile a finalized version of vacations that we can have more creativity over, and capture the right mood of it all by selecting hat we show our friends. In the old days this was possible, but tedious and expensive to do, so we got stuck watching every minute of video shot, which wasn't always entertaining. Plus travel is more affordable, so vacations to further places are more common, and we want to ensure we can capture it all without having to lug around so many accessories.

Side note the Sony DVD recorder works very well. I have used several of them now when customer's bring them in to my store for instruction. One thing to look out for is that many new camcorders are capable in recording in HD, and it can not burn HD to a DVD. Make sure you record in SD if you want to create a DVD with it.
