LockedAir compressor losing air, please help

Hi

I wonder if anyone can help.

We have a 50l Performance Power air compressor which, up until today,, worked perfectly. Now, when you turn it on and it fills itself up, as soon as it cuts off it starts losing all the air again straight away. Not out of the base valve though, but it seems to be out of the top bit (under where the on off button is)

Can anyone help at all please?

It is very important we get it sorted but cant afford a new one.

Thanks

This brief description is indicative of some type of minor regulator failure.  There should be a quick air release near the on/off switch.

The valve being fetched up would be the simplest cause.  Moisture can cause this.  Jiggle the valve until it stops leaking.

If this is not the case, please continue to post.

Also, is it still under warranty?

Have you ever drained the moisture from the tank? I agree with ww, that it sounds like the regulator. You may also want to replace the regulator (relatively cheap, and they're available at your local Sears, though you'll want to check for fit). Be sure to use teflon tape to seal the threads airtight to prevent further damage by moisture and air.

Some "soapy water" will help find the air leak.

Once in a while, the metal tube develops a crack in it - a fairly straight forward repair, similar to installing a new air regulator.
