Is there layaway available for a quality desktop  computer from Sears?

Dave,

Unfortunately not.  The problem is that computers change so fast that its hard for any retailer to offer layaway on them.  By the time the 8 weeks are up its very likely the computer has already been discountined by the manufacturer and a new model is out!

However, why not try this trick to make your own lay-a-way.  Purchase a Sears gift card and then ever week (or every pay cycle) put $50 or so on it.  In no time at all you can buy anything you want -- including that new computer!

Rstinnett,

Thank you for your reply. Very good idea...I wish they would slow down a bit (pc manufacturer's). just due to the fact that it would be nice to know your purchase will be supported. Mine still is...but the cost of upgrades or repair does not equate as you know the older ,slower stuff is to costly to mess with very much. But alas this old girl is 6 years old and zips along pretty well. I did see a PC on Sears site that offered 5 year warranty and unlimited lifetime phone support...That seems appealing to me as I was on my own after 3 months with this one.  You have a great Thanksgiving sir. Thank you again!!!

I think the trick for computer longevity is to NOT do too many software upgrades.

Every software upgrade "assumes" the most current hardware and memory features.

For many of us, this is not a valid assumption.

No problem, and good luck.  The gift card trick works for everything -- from a new computer to a new set of tires from Sears Auto!

I highly recommend that everyone look at Windows 7; it's a great upgrade!
