LockedSmall TV BUYERS WATCH OUT!!!!

If your thinking about a small flat panel tv for your bedroom WATCH OUT!!!!

Most flat panel LCD's under 32 inches have a great picture if you look down on them strait on at them or from side to side. However, If you look up at them the picture and color goes to snot! This isn't a problem if you plan on using the tv on the kitchen counter.  If you were planing on setting the tv on a dresser at the foot of the bed in the bedroom you could be very upset with your new TV!!! If your head is on the pillows and the tv is above head levels LOOK OUT!!!!! Make sure you bend down low and look up at the tv in the store. You don't want to get the set home only to be disappointed!!!

I have also heard this about small LCD's. I just ordered a 32 inch HDTV from sears. You mention that below 32 inch has that problem. How about 32 inch? I have my present TV at the end of my bed elavated on a dresser. It's an old tv so I have no problem, but I'm hoping my new 32 inch won't have the problem you mention. What do you think?

Only offbrand TVs really have this problem with viewing angles.  If you go name brand, you're fine.

I have a 32" Vizio LCD on the dresser directly at the foot of my bed with no viewing problems.

I don't know much about Name brands. I hope Emerson is alright. My roomate has a smaller 22 inch vizio  in her room and I have noticed the problem  I'll just keep my fingers crossed. This is my first HD Tv.  Thanks.

Its a problem with <32 tv's I have not seen a 32" tv yet that has the problem but your Emerson should be fine. HE- Its not just low end. Samsung's 19" and 22" ln22b360 and ln19b360 have this problem. Its not as common in 2009 models that it was in years past but these are the types of things people should know beforehand. If you know about the potential for a problem you know to check it out before you buy.

Also KSchalg, You might want to think about picking up a up-converting dvd player and an hdmi cable to go with it. It will convert your old dvd's to High Defenition

I ended up going with a VIZIO 32 inch (VOJ320F1A)  The Emerson was only 720p and since I was also getting a LG bd390 Blue Ray player I wanted to be sure I had a HDTV that could handle the full Blue Ray ability. For another 200 bucks Sears had this Vizio 1080p HDTV. I picked up the TV from Sears today and hooked up the BlueRay and I can tell you I have had no problem with the picture from any angle. I'm quite happy with the size.

I had already ordered a HDMI cable from e-bay and I know what you mean. I can sure tell the difference. I don't have HD cable service yet but I have Netflix with HD streaming. So I've been streaming and it looks great in HD on the new TV, even Youtube videos look great streamed onto it. No matter where I sit the picture is fine unlike my roomates smaller offbrand HDTV. If you move to far to the left or right it looks funny.   Thanks

For the bedroom, I wouldn't waste money on an LCD.  OUr bedroom TV went out recently and we bought another CRT for $119 shipped from Amazon.  I went to Sears, Best Buy and Target -- nobody carried CRT TV's.  The cheapest LCD any of them had was $319.  I said "no friggin' way".

Another example of where if a store carried what customers want, instead of what they want them to buy, they could reap benefits.  People (like me) are not going to shell out big bucks for an LCD for every room in the house.

Yes, but most customers are not interested in CRT Televisions.  I have maybe one customer per month who asks about them.  They are still good televisions, but are pretty hard on the environment.

Hard on the environment?  My old CRT in the bedroom lasted over 15 years!  I know friends who have bought LCD's that are on their 3rd one in less than 6 years.

LCDs in general have an issue with light where they will absorb any light around them which washes out the picture and makes them harder to see, while people try to knock plasmas for glare, LCDs have thier very own light issue. Its something that is just a flaw with the tv type.
