Here is an opinion from a member of the Blue Electronics Crew:
"At the very minimum you will need a device such as a receiver to control the volume/balance/treble of any external (non-TV speakers). If you have your mind set on this route, Sears (and Sears.com) features a wide variety of Sherwood and Sony receivers (ranging in price from $99.99 to $299.99) as well as Sony speakers (ranging in price from $49.99 to $159.99) for a complete home theater set-up. A second alternative course of action would be to purchase either a Samsung non-integrated (no DVD player) HTIB/speaker set such as the HT-AS730 (Sears item number 98639, $499.99 everyday price) or a Samsung integrated HTIB such as the HT-Z320 or HT-Z520 (Sears item numbers 98659 and 98669 at $229.99 and $379.99 everyday prices, respectively). The main benefit of this course of action is that all necessary audio components are integrated into a single package whereby each component is specifically designed to work with the other components to produce optimal sound. A secondary benefit of this course of action is that you will be able to control all devices with a single, unitized remote- a great benefit if you're trying to reduce clutter or don't want the hassle of keeping track of multiple remote controls. Good luck on your purchase decision."
