I have been looking at the  "LG" television and thinking about purchasing one since they seem to be lower priced than Sony & Samsung.  I want to know about how long has this name brand "LG" TV been out and is it as good as a Sony or Samsung?  Is the LG television made in the USA?

Hi happywithsears2! I don't think LG is made in America, I think it's made in Asia and LG HDTVs have been out for quite a while. I TOTALLY recommend LG over Samsung, because I had BAD experiences with Samsung products from cell phones to HDTVs! I also heard more people return Samsungs than Vizio! That really suprised me! But I'd rather get an LG over Samsung and as for Sony, thats the ABSOLUTE BEST HDTV made out there. Sony may be more expensive but they give you your moneys worth!!!I have one and it has an easy set up and great picture and sound!

Thanks, I appreciate your information.  What about Vizio?  How is it's track record?

LG is a Korean company, and their sets are not made in America (nor are anybody's). LG has been around for decades making various electronic devices, mainly televisions and refrigeration products. LG purchased Zenith, which took their television business firmly into the American market. LG has been selling televisions in America for years, and makes many of the components that other television manufacturers use in their sets. They also created some of the technologies that other manufacturers use, such as the way the LCD screens are made to be viewable from all angles.

Their picture quality is quite good. Not in Samsung's range, but certainly a good competitor to Sony.

Vizio is a price point brand that makes the best of the bottom line sets on the market. If price is a deciding factor, Vizio will give you a larger set than LG for the same price, with the main differences being a slightly grayer picture.

With any new television, sound isn't really a top priority anymore, so while the speakers will be good enough for a small room, a sound system or home theater system may be a good addition. Depending on the model, they can be had for under $100, and the sky's the limit.

I thnk RCA is due for a comeback. Sears sold many of their sets back in the day!

Oh yea RCA's are great TVs!!! I bought TWO RCAs from Sears about 5 years ago when the bigger and older SDTVs were out! I bought two 19 in RCAs and they are working great til this day! I'm trying to purchase a Vizio to replace the old TV but RCA HDTV are a little pricey but I trust the brand. I'd rather buy from Kmart than Sears for some reason!

For overall ratings, check this month's Consumer Reports.  It lists the best brands, based on objective ratings, for many key technology items, including TVs.

I just got the proscan and lord knows i will spend extra to get an LG or Samsung. The Inputs on the Proscan is jacked up i keep getting HDMI-DVI which is not an input on the TV. Sure can't wait to get the Samsung or maybe a Sony Bravia. A little extra money and i will have peace of mind. I even called the company and they could not fix it. Don't get the Proscan unless u want to be stressed out.

Me too.  Are there any statistics or numbers available that would substantiate this claim?  If that's the case, I'd sure like to send this up so that we can address this.

I'm sorry that you had a bad experience.  If you'd like to tell me your experience via private message here on MyCommunity, I'd be interested in hearing it.

Mr. Samsung

Samsung also sells a much higher volume of tvs than Vizio does at Sears, if we are simply talking tv returns then yes Samsung would get the most returns.

My daughter gave me a 39" Samsung flat screen TV for my birthday two or three years ago.  We had no trouble with it until about 4 months ago.  My repairman said that it had blown something (I forget what) and it caused a second one to blow.    The repairs would be over $400.  He also said that these components usually go out in about two years.  The cost of this set was $1295.00, after the mark down.  While I am trying to decide what to do, I am using my older Quasar Crystal Vision series, and it's working great.  It has never been repaired.  I need some help in deciding what brand to purchase.  Thanks very much,

Geraldine Johnson
