I carve wooden spoons as hobby and this sander works great. I had the sander for years but could never find a use for it. I normally made furniture and just didn't need it. After retiring, the wife and I started working as volunteers at a lighthouse and had plenty of time on our hands so I took up carving spoons. The sander is great for sanding the bowl of the spoon, especially if you remove two of the sanding disks. The problem that I encountered was that you don't want to drop the sander; your first time will be your last. Make sure that if dropped, it doesn't have far to go. The little speed control thumb wheel is especially vulnerable. I ordered another from Sears because it works well for my stuff. They had them on sale for under $10 so rather than pay the replacement insurance fee of $1.48, I just ordered two sanders. Thanks, good luck.
