I saw the craftsman 1/2" drive impact wrench for $30 and figured that I couldn't lose, so I purchased it. When I got home I pulled it out of the box like a child receiving a present entranced by its illustrious shimmer. The bright new craftsman label evoked feelings of reassurance as it symbolizes quality...

Most Helpful Critical Review

I bought this at Xmas to do casual garage work on my cars. I have a 25 gallon Craftsman compressor set correctly for psi output and I keep all my tools in good shape; I don't abuse them or overtax them. The first time I used this wrench, it spun once then stopped and never worked again. I took it...

This impact wrench was a huge disappointment. This seems to be another case of outsourcing (to China) gone bad. The snap ring that holds the socket in place is apparently made of the wrong kind of steel. The ring will not compress properly, preventing the socket from being safely placed on the tool. After several people at the store tried and failed to mount the socket on the tool, we found we could only get the socket on by placing the socket on the floor and pounding on the top of the tool with extreme force. A small slip could have sent the socket flying. Because I needed to get a motor apart...

Some Assembly Required

Many times in my life I have read those words with some dread. Think of Christmas Eve and the plethora of bicycle parts and large toys that need to be put together so the playtime can start immediately! The book case my wife bought from the Wally place and other such furnishings! Yes, for a long time I dreaded those words and they were worse when they weren't printed but you figured it out pretty fast when you opened the box! This is a tale of the latter example!

Okay, perhaps this one wasn't as bad as it could have been, in fact, this one was easy! When I bought this online I didn't...

I bought this Craftsman 1/2 in. Impact Wrench to take off the blade from my zero turn mower. I love it. I will use it when I am working on restoring an old truck I bought as well. It was a great price. I love the Craftsmans life time warranty. It is also a great weight. Not too heavy. Easy to handle. I would recommend it for anyone using around the house.

THIS GUN IS TRASH!!!

My compressor is a craftsman 20gal 1.5hp 150psi 3.8 SCFM @ 90psi. I know this isn't the most powerful setup out there for some of the "beefier" tools like an impact wrench, but this particular wrench would not "break" anything loose on my car. Couldn't get exhaust bolts off. I couldn't even get my lug nuts off and they were only torqued to 95ft/lbs!!! Being new to air tools and seeing the reviews from different owners, i decided to give my compressor a fighting chance, and i went out and bought an IR impact gun instead of looking for a more powerful compressor. I focussed on the SCFM thinking... read full review »

very good item

I bought this impact wrench in a set that came with the 3/8" air rachet.  For the money, I thought it would be worth it.  After some more tests tonight, that couldn't be far from the truth.

There is absolutely no way this 1/2" impact wrench puts out 340 ft/lbs of torque!  Best that I could get out of it @ 25% above the tool's rated pressure was 115 ft/lbs.

What I did was first tighten a lug nut using a torque wrench, then use the impact wrench to loosen it.  Pretty simple test, right?

The Craftsman 1/2" impact wrench was able to loosen the lug tightened to 115 ft/lbs, but not the same lug tightened...

Craftsman 1/2 in Impact

I gave this item 3 stars due to the warranty, price and quality. 2 stars short because of the power in this particular impact is not there, I have a cordless 18v impact with more power. Bottom line, I would recommend this item for light jobs but again for the price; I cant complain. If i knew what I know now, I would spend a little more for a heavy duty one. Sears/Craftsman stands by their warranty and the prices are resonable; thats why I will remain a fan!

I bought this wrench for on sale for $20. I brought it home and it broke the first time I tried to pull off a lug nut. I returned it but the second one broke soon afterwards. From what I've seen, these just aren't up to the same standards as other craftsman tools.

I definitely wouldn't recommend buying this for $40. Instead, go ahead and spend a little extra on a better impact wrench - you won't regret it.
