I use this gun every day at my job. I work at a Goodyear repair facility, so you can imagine the abuse and use this gun takes. i take off an average of 30 tires a day, and this gun has definitely held it's own. I am going to Sears later today to replace my old one with a new one (due to my own error,...

I bought this gun about 1 1/2 months ago and its started having dead spots where it was working then just stopped. It also says its supposed to have 400 ft lbs of torque which it doesn't! This gun is a pile of garbage it barely takes lug nuts off of the tires when I do a tire rotation. Needless to say...

Craftsman 1/2 in. Impact Wrench Reviews

I tried to use this impact wrench once to change the lug nuts on my Minivan. My four year olds plastic toys provide more torque than this thing. I finally just got out my 3/8 inch ratchet and did the job. It would be a great paper wait though and it looks really good. Another fine product from craftsman, Made in china what do you expect?

I expected higher quality from Craftsman. As a mechanic it gets used a lot ,I always  properly maintain all of my tools as it is my paycheck on the line when tools have to be replaced. Even with regular oiling it wont torque in either directions after about  3 months.  I exchanged it the first time after only 3 months with no problems. The second one went out another 3 months later. When I went to return this one they informed me that I would need to pay an additional $13 if I wanted this one to have a warranty! This is at 6 months and I had originally paid the $13.50 for the Purchase Protection...

I've had this impact for about a year now and it has worked perfectly when removing lug nuts, suspension, and pretty much anything i've thrown at it while working on cars.  I know what people are dealing with when they give this impact a bad rating for "no power". Like with any air tool, you have to lubricate it before every use. I damaged my first one and had the same problem (lugs not getting tightened enough, freezing, etc.), but it was my fault for not keeping it properly lubed. On the bright side, Sears exchanged it NO QUESTIONS ASKED!

Overall, excellent buy just remember to lube!!!

Prior to purchasing this gun, I had a cheap ************** 1/2" drive impact wrench.  It is the one that sells for about $40-50.  I'm not sure what it's maximum torque rating is

I was in the middle of changing the timing belt on my Honda Civic, and my ************** impact wrench would not loosen the crank pulley bolt.  I put the driver's side wheel back on (it was removed to gain access to the bolt), and tightened the lugnuts down with my impact gun.  I went to sears and purchased this Craftsman impact wrench, assuming that it had to have more guts than my old wrench.  I was wrong.  I got...

This gun lasted me about 1.5 to 2 years but I don't use it that often. Mostly rotate the tires on my 3 vehicles. In the middle of replacing my struts it left me stranded. Disapointed.

Great for Home Use

I bought this impact wrench to use for rotating the tires on my vehicles and for other medium and light weight duties around the house. While you should always use a torque wrench for the final re-tighten of your lugs, this wrench does a perfect job of removing and installing the lugs. I've had this torque wrench for over a year and have not had any problems with it at all. While I haven't tried it on heavy duty applications, it's rated at 400 ft/lbs and would probably handle most of them with ease. As with any torque wrench, you need to make sure that you are pairing it with enough air pressure... read full review »

Died after 1 use

I purchased this impact to repalce my 15 year old Craftsman. I used it to install a leveling kit on my truck. Then 3 months later I went to use it to rotate my tires and the transmission was bad and would turn forward or reverse. Not happy because quality of this Impact.

Good wrench

Paired with my compressor, it delivers consistent torque performance. It has more then enough power to strip off lugs of any passenger vehicle, trucks included. Not sure what the complaints about no power are. I'm guessing they undersized their compressors. It's not a wrench to strip lugs off a semi, but hey you're not going to be using a 1/2 " for that anyway. Overall, great wrench. Took the bolts off of anything I needed it too, including suspension parts, lugs, exhaust, whatever I needed, it delivered. I like the speed settings for tighening also. Makes it a little harder to over torque (although... read full review »

the craftsman 1/2 in. impact wrench is doing everything i need it to do. it is comfortable and not too heavy. its not failed in loosening anything ive asked of it so far. im a retired tech. who works on friend and neibors cars (as well as my own) and while shopping for air tools for the house this impact seemed to have a good balance of price power and comfort.

id reccomend this impact to anyone who needs a good impact but dosnt want to break the bank.

5 stars

i am a diesel mechanic and was looking for a good gun at a reasonable price and i found one . mine gets tossed on the floor dropped on the ground. it takes what ever the trucks and heavy equipment that i work on and it keeps coming back for more. great gun would buy another.

Impact

Bought this tool on sale and bought two one for my son and me. Wow !!Real power and quiet also .

Pretty doesn't cut it.

Nice balance and grip, quiet, nice looking. The torque adjustment is a sweeping lever with no detents, you won't be able to accuratly duplicate torque ranges which is a problem. That's how things get broken. No problem with breaking things with this gun however since it doesn't have much torque. I had an IR2010 which blows the doors off of this one. This one will not pull a harmonic balancer bolt on a Honda 6 cylinder.

not what i expected

when i think of a gun with 400 ft/lbs of torque, this should have no problem removing and installing lug nuts on a vehicle. Boy was i wrong. not only did it barely take the lug nuts off, it wouldnt impact them back on. about half way on, the gun would freeze up, i finally got so frustrated i used my torque wrench. i now use an ingersoll rand and have never had any problems.
