More Power Please.!

This is an awesome sander for the price. It's a good heavy unit and appears to be made pretty well. The metal casing and rubber feet gives it good stability. The only draw back is the 1/3hp motor is a little under powered. If it had at least a 1/2hp motor it would be excellent.

The only other drawback...

Under powered

I got my sander for projects around the house works well for light projects truing corners on trim rounding corners and just light sanding. This saw is under powered I suggest medium to fine belts only coarse belts bog this sander down if you could replace the motor with the next size up it would be... read full review »

I have had a benchtop sander for many years, it finally had to be replaced by another craftsman benchtop sander. This is a great project sander with easy setup and grate versatility.

This sander is relatively inexpensive an will give many years of good service. The belts wear well and are easy to replace and the sticky back disc sander is wonderful to use and replace.

I purchased my Craftsman bench top belt and disc sander several years ago and have not had any problems with its performance or dependability. It is great for rounding corners and shaping / smoothing rough edges.

This is an awesome bench sander for a lifetime of woodworking. A quality product with the Craftsman name to back it up! I only have Craftsman in my toolbox, garage, and in my shop. You can't ask for anything more when you invest in the Craftsman brand!

Love this sander.  Not great for big jobs, but works well for small sanding chores.  Would definitely recommend to others.  Sand Paper is easy on and runs true.  For the price excellent.

Great for the price

Excellent sander for the price. Runs very well and very true. Only issue I have with it, is that the disc is held on via Pressure sensitive glue. It does not hold on too well. It has come off a couple of times while using, and can be frustrating. Price makes it worth it though.

I bought this thing because of the great price. It works perfectly for small projects, but dont count on it for anything that requires precision.

If you are doing serious precision woodworking, save up and buy the larger more powerful ones. If you are in a pinch and this is in your budget it will work but it will require alot more hands-on to get it to where you want.

Overall im pleased with it for what it is. Well worth the price.

This product is great value but the most important feture is that it is great for small projects, because I work with model planes. GREAT!!!!

underpowered

Underpowered and the table adjustment knob is now useless b/c of the cheap chinese steel threads.

Economic

Thought unit was good for its size and capability, but it could have included another work table for the price (one for each sander). Power should be a minimum of 1/2HP, but performed fairly good up to medium work load.

works for me

I don't understand all these negative reviews about being underpowered. this sander has plently of power and works great if you us it correctly.you can't use too much pressure or it will stall, but with mine i found it takes quite a bit of pressure to stall the motor.just like using a saw,you can't force it to do more than it can handle.take your time, use common sense and this tool works fine. i've been using mine for over 2 years and have had no problems of any kind with it.

Satisfied

A good machine for hobby/light sanding small pieces. DO NOT expect accuracy. No problem with inadequate power - plowed thru hardwood and softwood. Just got to choose the correct grit sandpaper and use an abrasive cleaner, sold seperatley, "frequently" to remove the build up on the disk or belt. Assembley instructions were "ok". Must pay attention, read thru the entire manual first and then refer to the parts list diagram. You'll go back and forth but eventually figure it out. The instructions were obviously not written by a woodworker. The miter gage is a "wanna be" item -- push stick at best.... read full review »

Good Value given limitations

I've used this sander for a little over a year now. Quite happy with it. I was aware of the power limitations some others have commented on. If a lot of pressure is placed on the belt, it stalls, but that much force isn't the right use of the tool. I used an adapter to hook it up to a 4" dust collector and it does an adequate job. Craftsman is not what it used to be, but I can't complain about this one.

A GREAT hobby tool

I have owned my sander for approximately 2 years. It has performed admirably for me. I only use it for small hobby projects and mostly on the softer woods, (pine, cedar, ash, etc.) I have used it on oak but I remember to take baby steps. But I also have to keep in mind the same baby steps on cedar and pine as it will eat them in a hurry. It is a GREAT tool for finishing edges on bird houses, gopher gums, wooden plaques, etc. I am a machinist by trade and like the big powerful tools for metal, but in the unfamiliar realm of woodwork, this is a great tool for me.
