Not bad for the price

1st drill press I've owned & with the limited use it's seen, so far it's worked well. I read thru many of the reviews. Didn't have any problems with assembly - went together easily. There are a few points though that could be addressed. I realize this isn't a $400 drill press, but:

1. Is it really...

Too much drill wobble

Assembly went well, which the exception that you had to constantly clean the grease off your hands when you touched the metal parts. I guess the grease is to protect the metal, but they sure used enough of it. The fact that the chuck is simply wedged onto a tapered shaft indicates to me that there...

Craftsman 10&#34 Bench Drill Press with... Reviews

I've owned this for over a year now and it's been able to handle all the jobs I've thrown at it-metal and wood. I bought a small vise and attached it to the work table and it hasn't skipped a beat. I agree that the wobbly chuck issue is people beating the chuck to death when assembling it...just a few taps with a rubber mallet and its ready to go.

Great delivery and easy set up.

I needed this for my garage, primarily to drill safey wire holes in nuts and bolts for my vintage racing motorcycle. I found the initial set up to be very easy. I purchased a small "universal" stand from Sears, but it didn't quite fit, so I used a board for mounting the press to the stand. I still have a bit of work to make it a better fit.

As for the drill itself, it has proved to be just the thing for the job. I used the lowest setting (600 rpm) and a carbide bit to drill through five bolts with no problems. Used a mild cutting oil too.

Overall I'm pleased with the drill and it should work...

Not bad

Slightly above average. Chuck isn't all that tight; bit of bit wobble but manageable. Driving depth could be more as well.

I put this together in my front room and carried it down to my basement. I went together fast and easy and I have used it several times and love it.

I bought this drill press to replace an old drill press that i had for about 10 years. Opened it and assembled it per instructions. With a little playing with the laser you can get it to work fine. Who really uses the lasers though? Let me talk about the product itself. The product is a great tool for anyone that likes to do hobby work. with little knowledge you would be able to assemble this and have it running in about 30 minutes. The instructions are very clear on this product. The drill press has enough power to drill through any wood or metal that you can throw at it, providing you use the...

Great Drill

This drill works great for household use. Very good power and accuracy. The drill guides supplied are not that useful, but the laser sights are quite nice. The axles do need to be adjusted after some use to keep the belt in good tension. Nice and quiet.

Great tool for the price.

The drill press was easy to assembly but you can't use the 14mm wrench recommended.  The nuts and bolts are 13mm.  When trying to adjust the rpms the motor has to be loosened, pulled forward to release belt tension and then the belt should be moved to another pulley arrangement.  However when the motor is loosened it can't be moved.  I called the customer help line and was told it was an older model not on their computer so they could not help me.  I will try again and hopefully get a more experienced person but if I have no success, I will return this item.  I am really disappointed.  ...

Works very well.  Changing speeds is a little difficult until you get the hang of it.  I did have some problems getting the laser to align properly.

Every thing else is easy and drills straight.

This was bought as a Christmas present. Mr husband loves making thing for presents lots of craft things and thisis something he has wanted but just let me know that he would like to have. He loved it and it will make making his crafts faster and easier. I have not found anything by Craftman that he does not like He has a Scroll saw now for 22 years and he still uses it.

great little workhorse

I have the older version (no laser), and it's has served me well. The only complaint I have, other than wanting a bigger drill press, is the the table height adjustment is awkward. Other than that, this is a great drill!

10" drill press

After reading others reviews, I felt this was a good press for the money. I was not disappointed. Set up took about half an hour, no problems. The chuck tapped on easily, and with NO WOBBLE! Out of the box, the laser was spot on, no adjustment needed. Very well packaged, and very well made. Compared to other small drill presses in the same price range, this one performs perfectly. Very satisfied with this.

a solid performer

I read every review here, and went and bought one. I am a hobby knife builder, and wanted more than the hand drill press I've been using; it worked accurately, but I wanted a 1/2" chuck. Some of the comments of other reviewers are relevant, such as the near useless guard, but since I don't need the red lights to show me where to drill, I don't expect to be troubled by that option. I used a Starrett machinists square to check how straight a hole I can expect, and my machine is dead nuts accurate. Don't bother collecting a bunch of tools to put it together, a decent adjustable wrench will get what... read full review »
