I've owned one of these for about three years. At first it worked just fine, but now I'm looking to replace it. While the bits spin straight and true in the air, as soon as they touch material (generally plastic or wood) the bits immediately begin tilting to the right, making it very difficult to line up holes accurately.
...

I'm going to get used to this...
I was avoiding cost in workbench space, but this has earned it's keep. Hand drilling angled holes for wine racks was perfectly do'able, but on my gosh, having the right tool for the job for the last 30 or so holes makes buying a drill press very worth it. I have no other models to compare it to as I am not in the tool profession, but this has served me just fine. Enjoy....

Got this as a Christmas gift from my wife, and set it up that day (about a half-hour's work).

Set up was easy, operation a breeze. After putting the unit together and playing with it a bit, I wondered what all the fuss of some of the other reviewr's was about.

Most of the negative reviews I believe come from people who think that you should get $1000 quality for $125, and really have no business operating power tools. If you have a problem with the unit being underpowered, get a bigger unit. If you have a problem with having to manually change the belt to change speeds, get an automatic unit. If you have a problem with the chuck running true, assemble the unit correctly.

The only two gripes i truly have are these:

There really isn't adequate room to adjust the lasers even with a stubby screwdriver

It would be nice if you could lock the horizontal table adjustment while moving the table in the vertical

To sum up; nice unit, nice price. I'm well pleased.
...

I purchased this product with a gift card from my mother-in-law for $125. The assembly was reasonably easy and strait forward. But prior to assembly stop by an auto parts store and pick up some break cleaner and a bag of rags to clean off the oil put on the metal. There was enough oil on this unit to lube an 18 wheeler. The manual was not completely accurate. It said to use a 12 mm wrench to attach the post to the base, but it was actually a 13mm head. Also one of the three bolts was damaged so I had to run to ********** and get a new one. Putting the chuck on was simple and I dont seem to have "wobble" as others had mentioned. I simply put the chuck on by hand, thenput a block of wood between the table and chuck. I cycled the chuck to force it onto the quill. then lightly tapped with the block of wood and mallet. Seems to be on and working well. The laser in my opinion is probably better in the trash than on the machine. Thats because of its bulkiness and adjustments. ...
...

I have a need for a light duty drill press and this unit fits the bill. Assembly was straightforward and the outcome was very good. The chuck didn't wobble as others have noted. I made sure the chuck bore was very clean as well as the spindle shaft and was careful to use a smooth piece of wood, properly aligned, to tap the chuck in to place. Yes, the rack and pinion isn't very smooth nor precise, but again, this is an inexpensive tool and that is not that important.

The biggest disappointment was the alignment of the laser. Again, not a big deal, but if it's there, it should work better.

The instructions weren't 100%, but were close enough that the one error I saw was easily noted and worked around. The rack ring was already in place on the column, but the instructions were to put the table bracket assembly on to the column, which can't be done, obviously, with the ring in place. Again, not a big deal to overcome.

Overall, I'm very pleased with this tool
...

Purchased the drill press to work with wood and metal and does a great job for the price and size. I like the lazer set-up and was not to hard to set-up. Assembly was easy if you are mechanically inclined. I have had no problem with the chuck wobbling like others indicate but I think some of this attributed to the assembly. I would recommend this to someone who wants a drill press at a minimum cost and has a small workshop. Much better then someof the low cost units you see for sale.
...

Assembly of this drill press was easy with fairly good directions. The location of the battery box was left out of the instructions but everything else was covered. The mechanism for raising and lowering the drill plate is fairly crude but should work ok. The chuck uses an odd size key that is different from my other Craftsman drill press (smaller). The motor seems to be fairly powerful and runs quietly. Time will tell if this piece of machinery (made in China) will do it's job.
...

The Craftsman 10 in. Drill Press with Laser is a great additon to my shop. I had originally opted for the 12" cousin of this drill press, but couldn't catch it in stock and chose this 10 inch Craftsman Drill Press at the suggestion of my other Craftsman buddies. I have a small engine repair shop, but have recently gotten into wood working as a hobby to kick back and relax with. I had an old hand me down 8 inch drill press in the shop, but it's old and kind of tempermental at times and decided that I needed something newer and a little tougher and easier to use. I was looking for a solid performer and someting that would fit in my shop with a small foot print, but tough enough to do what I needed it to do. I don't need fancy, I need something to do the job and not be complicated to setup and use. My wife took me to Sears to choose a birth day gift & this is what I chose. I took my gift home and went straight to the shop and opened the box & took out the owner's manual and read through......

steve9274 says "Too much drill wobble" about Craftsman 10&#34 Bench Drill Press with Laser Trac (21900)

Assembly went well, which the exception that you had to constantly clean the grease off your hands when you touched the metal parts. I guess the grease is to protect the metal, but they sure used enough of it. The fact that the chuck is simply wedged onto a tapered shaft indicates to me that there could be some chuck alignment problems.

I put a 1/4" drill bit in the chuck, and turned on the press. I estimate that the end of the drill bit wobbles approximately 1/8". This is not acceptable, and it shows that the chuck is not aligned properly. I used other drill bits and they had the same problem.

I recently purchased a small drill press from **************, and it assembled the same way, and had the same drill bit wobble. I returned it. I think all of these Chinese drill presses are made in the same factory.

The drill press goes back tomorrow.

I used to have a 12" Delta press that I got about 30 years ago. The bits ran straight and true. No wobble. I guess those days are gone.
...

1st drill press I've owned & with the limited use it's seen, so far it's worked well. I read thru many of the reviews. Didn't have any problems with assembly - went together easily. There are a few points though that could be addressed. I realize this isn't a $400 drill press, but:

1. Is it really that difficult to have the drill head pressed on at the factory? The buyer shouldn't have to hammer the head on.

2. The laser really isn't necessary, nor does it line up very well. With or w/o it I'm still going to manually set my drill point.

3. Don't care for having to switch pulleys to change speed. How much more difficult would it have been to add a variable speed pulley or motor.

4. I'd really like to see the Craftsman products made in the USA.

That said, so far it works very well for the small projects I work on.

Also purchased the 3" quick release vise - nice addition to hold small parts firmly.
...

Slightly above average. Chuck isn't all that tight; bit of bit wobble but manageable. Driving depth could be more as well.

Camronb says "Great delivery and easy set up." about Craftsman 10&#34 Bench Drill Press with Laser Trac (21900)

I needed this for my garage, primarily to drill safey wire holes in nuts and bolts for my vintage racing motorcycle. I found the initial set up to be very easy. I purchased a small "universal" stand from Sears, but it didn't quite fit, so I used a board for mounting the press to the stand. I still have a bit of work to make it a better fit.

As for the drill itself, it has proved to be just the thing for the job. I used the lowest setting (600 rpm) and a carbide bit to drill through five bolts with no problems. Used a mild cutting oil too.

Overall I'm pleased with the drill and it should work well for all my home and motorcycle projects.
...
