I bought this saw because I was going to be needing a miter saw for several upcoming projects around the house (molding, flooring, a dog house, etc) and I had a budget of about $350 for buying a saw. After shopping around for several days at Lowe's/Home Depot/Sears/etc, I ended up trusting the reviews and bought this one. I've already completed the trim project and after using it for a few weeks, I can tell it's a really nice saw. Straight out of the box everything was perfectly aligned. The sliding mechanism is smooth and fluid. Even the included blade is a good general-use blade. I swapped it...

I have used it to cut 4x4 lumber and crown and base molding with no problem. I bought this over a less expensive product because of the Craftsman name, reputation, and the fact that it came with the sliding feature. I haven't regretted that decision.
This is a very nice sliding miter saw for the money. I expected to have to align the fence to 90 deg and the bevel to 45 deg but it was aligned perfectly right out of the carton. Adjustment from 90 to 45 is smooth and solid with only a partial turn of the locking handle. The extension on each of the table is a handy feature. The laser has its own on/off switch and makes a handy reference point for aligning cut lines and making scant trims on boards that are a pencil line too long. The maximum width of cut when locked in retracted position is only about 3 1/2" so sliding is required for mitering...

I don't use it too often, but it's great to have around. I've had it for almost two years now, and have had zero problems. The laser seems to be pretty accurate, although not perfect. It is easy to see. I don't really care for it, and it wouldn't be a big deal to me if I had it or not. The saw is lightweight and easy to move if you need to.
I wouldn't recommend this if you're going to be using it all of the time. It is perfect for...

With the ten inch blade and the sliding capability it can cut up to 12 inch boards which is all that I need as a home owner. The blade is carbide tipped and lasts a long time. It can cut at an angle in one direction. This is a bit of a downside that it can't cut both directions but for the price that is what you get. It has slides that come out both sides to give more support and to assist you if you are making multiple cuts of the...

Love the saw but the laser doesn't show up well in the daylight, and it does not seem to be feeding the sawdust into the bag. The sawdust could be something I overlooked though.
The price was excellent. $200 was phenomenal. The ease of use of this machine and the ability to cut wide boards is want I needed it for.
After completing a shelf building project, the saw did perform very well. The cuts were clean and the laser was helpful and visible but then again I was working in the shade. The sliding mechanism was very smooth when cutting the 12" shelfs but after using the saw for the day, the sliding rods did seem to collect a fair amount of saw dust. Hopefully the smoothness of the gliding action will continue after much use.
As others have mentioned, the saw dust collection system needs improvement. There was more saw dust on the floor and saw than in the collection bag. However can't say it was useless...

Very Easy to set up out of the box, and is ready for work. It has platforms that extend out to accomodate longer pieces of wood, and that comes in handy. You can swivel the base to any angle you need, and even that is easy to do, thats what helped me out so much. The saw blades are a cinch to change out too, so I can also cut pieces of metal when I need.
Not to happy with the dust collecting bag, it doesnt seem to 'collect'...

The single bevel is more than adequate for the job and dual bevel is not a necessary feature which would be a waste of $200.00. It's simply not practical to continually change the bevel angle setting while cutting different ends. It is infinitely more practical, time saving and less confusing to simply turn the material.
The radial arm slide feature gives you so many more options and really turns this into a true multi-function saw that...
