Craftsman 10 in. Compound Miter Saw with Stand —
For me, portability and compact size are essential. I chose this package because of the good reviews for the saw and the stand n' stow feature.
Although the stand may be plastic, it is strong and durable enough for just about anything. The saw was incredibly precise out-of-the-box. No more than a 1/64th off. And, if alignment issues arise in the future, the necessary tools for fixing them are included. (The laser adjustment wrench is also included).
Before you purchase this though, ask yourself this question: What is the width of lumber (or trim/molding) for the majority of my cuts? This saw will cut a 2x6 at a 90 degree angle, but will not clear it in one pass when beveled. If you will be making cuts over 6" inches wide, you should consider the 12" miter saw or one of the sliding miters. It should be noted, however, cutting twice on this saw (I had to do this a few times on some 10 in. pine) is fairly easy. Minimal sanding was required on one of the cuts.
My only other gripe is the length of the support arms. I wish they were twice as long since longer boards tend to sag toward the floor.
