I read every review here, and went and bought one.
I am a hobby knife builder, and wanted more than the hand drill press I've been using; it worked accurately, but I wanted a 1/2" chuck. Some of the comments of other reviewers are relevant, such as the near useless guard, but since I don't need the red...read full review »
This is my first drill press and I was excited to get one. The set-up of the press was pretty easy out of the box and I have used the press for roughly 20 projects. Here are a couple of problems with this model.
1. The work surface is not true to the bit. The angel of the bit to the work surface (viewing...read full review »

Craftsman 10 in. Drill Press with Laser Ratings and Reviews
The forward pully that turns the chuck has reverse threads. This would be good if the motor turned in the other direction. I am having to tighten the top nut as I drill. The nut backs off and the pully freewheels on the shaft.
I will have to find a similar nut and double nut the shaft and see if that works.
A drill is no good if it can not be used for what it was purchased for.
After reading others reviews, I felt this was a good press for the money. I was not disappointed. Set up took about half an hour, no problems. The chuck tapped on easily, and with NO WOBBLE! Out of the box, the laser was spot on, no adjustment needed. Very well packaged, and very well made. Compared to other small drill presses in the same price range, this one performs perfectly. Very satisfied with this.
I find these reviews insightful so thought I'd contribute for other prospective buyers.
Overall:
I'm very satisfied with my drill press.
Pro:
Easy to assemble.
Fits on a small workbench (low profile).
Relatively quiet motor.
Con:
I'd prefer a worklight to the laser guide. Not a big deal. I'll attach my own LED work light.
Base clamps for table are somewhat on the weak side. These can be easily replaced with aftermarket parts. Not a big deal.
Suggestion following purchase:
I recommend purchasing a table vice with X-Y lateral movement.
I found this to be a very sturdy and well designed drill press. As it is a small press it is very sturdy and easy to use, also the assembly instructions were understandable. I found that is important to follow the assembly instuctions as the order in which putting it together is important. I am finding the laser adjustment to be a little difficult to undrestand. All and all I would definately recomend this unit.
Very impress with the quality and the features of this drill press. The motor is a strong 2/3 HP, works like a champ, put together in a short time. What more could you ask for. While this is my first drill press I have used others and I would rate this higher based on quality of build and price. Sure you can get bigger, more bells and whistles, but for the money and home use this is a winner.
I happened across this drill press by chance by purchasing is still in the box from a private party. I am glad I snatched it up.
Have had this drill for a few days now and it was great out of the box, went together fast and with no problems, nice instructions and easy to read. Very quiet when woring, the parts used in construction of the drill are very well made and the laser is a great add-on. Very happy with the sale price of 99 bucks and would recomend to anyone..
I just did not have the room on my work bench for the 12" model so I took this one home. I had read all of the reviews and followed the manual closely taking my time to make sure I did everything right. For the most part the manual was very helpful. One minor error on page 10 calling for a 12mm wrench, instead of the correct size which is a 13mm when assembling the the column to the base.
I paid particular attention to page 12 and cleaning both the chuck and the spindle to make sure no debris or oil residue was left. Doing that I found no wobble when I drilled my first hole.

pros: sturdy, lightweight for a drill press, easy to set up, cost effective for getting the small jobs done.
cons: 2 inch quill travel is more of a limiter than I thought it would be, fence is medicore on a good day, laser is useless unless everything you drill is exactly 5 inches from the chuck.
I had this tool together and working in less than one hour, but the laser took a lot more time. The adjustment screws are difficult to reach, and the beam is not crisp. The brightness of the laser distorts the view of the mark on the work piece. I'd have been better off with a simple work light than a...read full review »
This press does everything I bought it for, and more! The laser system is a nice addition to a lower priced bench top model, and proves to be very accurate. The press is quite as well, so if you live in an apartment, this press will be perfect so you will not disturb your neighbors! I would recommend this press to anyone.
This is a perfect drill press for the small home shop! Easy almost brainless assembly! (read and follow instructions!) As a past reviewer mentioned the only thing is, you might want to get a different chuck key, or live with the spring action as I plan on doing, for the time being anyway. Have a few clean rags and something to clean the grease/oil off of most of the parts. Otherwise there is NO CONS! Just remember that it is a small bench top drill press and it's not for production work!
I noticed that many people have had problems with the wobbly chuck. I did too until I read many articles regarding a wobbly chuck. To fix it, I got a scrap block of wood and a hammer and hit the chuck up to make sure it was seated properly. After several HARD hits, there was a noticeable difference. I can now drill precision holes with practically no vibration and/or wobble in the chuck. You also want to make sure that everything is tightened down firmly to increase stability. I hope this will solve peoples problem. I use my drill press as a drum sander as well as a drill. I am very happy with...read full review »
Over all I would say this is a nice drill press, except for one thing, after I bought the drill press, I was wanting to get a mortising kit to put on it, come to find out the bench top drillpress's " CAN NOT" use the mortising kit, only the floor model's do. If I would have known this, I wouldn't have bought it. I guess if you want to do some mortising, they want you to buy the tool that does that, and cost's over $200.00 dollars. But all and all, it's a very nice drill press, except for that one thing.
This is a great little drill press for those around the house jobs. Not ment for big jobs, very easy to assemble. If you dont have a work bench I would recommend buying one of the metal work stands. Easy to use and to adjust the heighs. Should have a place to attach the chuck to but it doesn't.
