Craftsman 10 in. Rear Laser Compound Miter Saw —

I purchased this saw a couple of months back, but am just now getting around to reviewing it. For starters, the stand was easy to assemble and is held together with good ol fashioned bolts and nuts, which, along with the adequate but not overly heavy weight of the metal stock, makes for a pretty sturdy piece that supports the saw well. Even so, the entire assembly (with saw) is light enough to pick up and move effortlessly. The power of this saw really impessed me. Mind you, most of what I've cut with this saw is pine, but I've cut everything from 3/4" corner trim to seasoned 4X4's, and so far, everything I've put in front of it so far, the blade goes through it like a hot knife through butter. If there's one complaint, it is that it does not quite cut 4X's thru completely (leaves a small tag), but that is not a real issue, as the wood can be flipped if necessary and cut from the other side . Cutting accuracy seems good (although I had to square the fence and fine tune the miter and bevel indicators before using, but his should be checked on any miter saw during initial setup, and periodically after that). I tested the accuracy of the laser by cutting a 4X4 and checking the alignment of the laser line with the actual cut: the laser line went straight down the middle of the kerf. Not bad, even though I probably won't be relying on the laser for precise cuts, but accuracy is good enough for framing and most other applications. All in all, this saw, for the money, can't be beat. It is powerful, comes with a good stand, and seems very sturdily constructed compared to other saws in its price range (and my wife wil tell you, I shopped around for a while before deciding to go with this one). The stand makes it a no brainer...just picked up a couple of roller stands to go with it, and I can support pretty much any length of stock at a comfortable height without the need for a pricey miter saw stand or workbench. I am very happy with it so far. The only reason i only gave it a 4 on reliability and durability is becauswe I haven't had it long enough to say otherwise, but so far, no problems. Would definitely recomend, especially for DIY'ers.
