This is my first table saw. I read numerous reviews on this and other Craftsman saws. After deciding I am using this only for light work and hobbies, I thought for the price, even if the saw wasn't great, it would work for me. The Stand: The stand in my experience, is completely fine for the saw. I was...

I bought this table saw to use mainly for cutting Medium density Fiberboard and not much else.. first complaint like everyone else is the miter attachment.. very fumblesome and awkward to use, and mostly inaccurate. But my biggest problems with this saw is the blade gaurd and the Rip fence. The Blade...

This saw is supposedly rated for 3 inches but has a very hard time with anything more than 1 inch. In fact, I think I burned out the motor on my first time out cutting at an 30 degree angle, (amounting to about 1 1/2 inches) and it just died. Looks pretty and easy to put together. Only good for a one-time very light duty project. Would not recommend unless you are cutting 1/4 inch cardboard. Used to be that Craftsman represented high quality...that was over 30 years ago. Too bad.
I've done a lot of great work with this saw, I am extremely happy with it.
The only downside for me are the non-standard T-slots. I have to make custom sliding jigs, standard 3/4" items don't fit.
But I think we typically make a lot of custom jigs anyway.
The only other table saw I've used is a big professional saw. The little saw is probably 90% as useful for my purposes, at 1/10 the price and 1/5 the weight.
Is it the best saw, no. But for the price it's great. I shopped around other brands and really feel confident this is the best saw for my budget. I've owned cheaper saws - this is by far much better. And I've used commercial grade saws - and as expected this one is weaker. But if you're not willing to drop $1000...for just a couple hundred this is your saw. Just don't expect it to be commercial grade.
The major cons include... the dust collecting bag isn't the best. Plastic parts can break easily. And as I've read in other reviews - the stand seems like it could tip if you rip a board too quickly....read full review »
If you're looking at this saw then you are probably a weekend warrior, hobbyist or beginner woodworker. This saw is exactly for you! I did a lot of research on other saws and was hesitant to buy this one due to some concerns mentioned in other reviews. I bought it 3 months ago, took the time to align the stand and blade, and it's been wonderful. You have to take into consideration that most of the complaints of this saw is due to user error. Don't be afraid to purchase and have fun with it! I have built many jigs, various wooden shop tools, two workbenches for my woodshop as well as a beautiful...read full review »
I just set up my saw today. The instructions were very detailed, but not real easy to follow. Actually it went together smoothly, and now I have the table extensions level, the blade is a perfect 90 deg. when the saw says it is. I must say the fence isn't at all bad, especially for a "cheap" saw. Com-on!! ANY saw fence will need a tap n' nudge to align perfectly, I have never seen one that didn't.
For the price this is great! I attached the fence, adjusted the thing, and it slides over and lines it self up pretty darn good.
You DO have to align and adjust everything out of the box, just as the...read full review »
In reading other reviews, I feel better. Mine is not the only junk. This saw will tip over, You will get a face full of sawdust if you have to cut with the blade guard removed. Sawdust will fly all over the place when using this saw. Don't leave anything on the saw while cutting as you will just have to pick it up from the floor, vibration will see to that. Cannot rely on fence gage.
I bought this saw 12/21/04 and now the motor is fried. I have used this saw on many small projects and it has worked fine. I have taking very good care of this saw by keeping it clean of dust and did not overload it at any time. I thought the motor should of lasted alot longer than it did. The craftsman name should stand for durability not disposable.
I should have researched online before I bought this saw. Like so many others, I had to replace the switch after a handful of times of use. Now the motor is burned out (I checked the switch and circuit breaker). Too bad, the size and configuration of the saw was just what I needed - maybe 2 projects per year. Unfortunately I would not recommend this saw, seems like it is a single use throwaway product.
THE SAW WAS EASY TO PUT TOGETHER WHEN YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. THE ONLY EXCEPTION WAS THAT AFTER ONLY 15 HRS OF USE THE MOTOR AND SWITCH NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. COST FOR REPAIR IS OVER HALF THE PRICE PAID FOR SAW WHEN PURCHASED. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS SAW TO THE WEEKEND WARRIOR.
I am a beginner woodworker with a small space to work and a small budget. This table saw is perfect for my space and my budget. I got a bonus plywood 200 tooth blade with my saw which is perfect cutting my hardwood veneer plywood. I had an easy time setting it up and the manual that comes with the saw is very complete. Follow what the manual says and the saw works great.
For the price this is a great table saw to start out with. As an experienced woodworker with little funds for my own shop the investment for this saw was right on the money. The saw does everything it's supposed to do. It's difficult to find attachments for the saw and you're limited to the type of dado blades you can use, but if you're just starting out this is a great saw for you. My biggest dislike is the aluminum top, I would have preferred steel, but the maintenance different makes up for that.
I do occasional woodworking and purchased this saw as my first table saw. It did a good job. I only have one big complaint. The t-slot rails are not the standard size so my aftermarket feather boards will not fit. I have since upgraded to a contractor table saw to do my big cuts and rips but I still keep and use this one for my smaller cuts and rips.
