Very nice tool, although there is no picture of the back of the tool.I needed the ones with the 3/8 ratchet drive hole on the back. These need a socket or wrench on them to use.I had to return them for the correct ones.
I stripped one of the two bolts on the inside of the cradle for my caliper. My buddy and I tried everything including filing and vice grips. I beat up my hands pretty good. I gave up and only changed the pads. I looked up kits last night and found this one. I went to Sears paid the thirty bucks and came home and got into it again. The original bolt was a fifteen mm so I tapped the fifteen chuck on the almost round bolt and used an adjustable and it unscrewed first try. It grabbed right in. I was stoked and now I have my new rotors and pads in.
I bought this set a couple of years ago with a christmas gift card that I had received. Well I never used it until I did the timing belt on my Wife's VW Jetta TDI. If you're not aware, VW uses tons of allen keyed bolts to hold things together. Once they get some corrosion in them, or muck or whatever, they are nearly impossible to get out. If the installer overtorqued them or whatever. Allen head bolts are evil. I had to use this on 2 of the bolts on the valve cover. And 3 out of 4 bolts on the harmonic/vibration dampener. I am very thankful that I had bought this, and decided to give it a try....
read full review »I also have the 14 pc standard socket wrench version the Crafsman bolt nut remover. In some situtations the socket design has a tendency to roll to the side and off of the bolt/nut. However, with this low profile design the leverange is centered on the bolt/nut rather than on top of it and roll-off is less likely. In addition, there is an obvious advantage in tight spots where a socket and ratchet just won't fit. I wouldn't be without both sets. The Crafstman sets are also a great value. I shopped around and found other bolt/nut remover sets from manufacturers of comparable quality to Craftsman....
read full review »Made my bolt a nice round shinny face. If you do not get the bolt to move the first time it is over..
one complaint used the chart to select which one to use for 12mm says #4 I needed #5 other than that flawless.
This kit is absolutely garbage. I tried to use it on a stripped bolt on my car, and all it did was strip it worse! I DO NOT recommend this kit to anyone with a stripped bolt.
I used this to get out a 6" bolt holding an alternator to a V-8 engine of a 36 year-old car. The shoulders of the bolt were damaged pretty heavily. Prior to that I tried sockets with a breaker bar, vice grips, wrenches, pliers and could not budge the bolt- the tools could not grab the rounded shoulders of it. On my first try with this set, the bolt immediately began to back out. In fact, it was so easy I stopped and verified that the bolt was actually backing out! All you do is mount the correct size on the bolt (by spinning it) and slip either a socket or wratchet over it. This tool...
read full review »I bought a used Kia Sorento and I noticed the fan belts needed to be changed. Unfortunately, the previous owner stripped a nut that goes on one of the fan belt pulleys. This nut was almost completely rounded. I tried using the gator grip socket, but that didn't work. My last hope was the Craftsman bolt/nut remover I picked up at Sears. I put the tightest fitting socket on the stripped nut and gave it a counterclock wise turn and it worked like magic! It turned the stripped nut on the very first try. I recommend this set.
Great tool. After three hours of vice grips, filing and aggravation, the bolt out got therounded bolt out of the brake caliper in about 30 seconds. Tap it in place with a hammer, then fit a soclket over the bolt out and you are done.
There is something to be said for having the right tool for the job. This one works!
