For the price, and if you are on the C3 line, this is a great addition. Can you find a better saw, sure, but for around $60, you can't do better than this one.
I have thrown everything at this saw, and it cuts great. Wood, steel, wood with nails, you name it, it's done it. The LED light is great, and has come in handy in dark spaces.
The only problem that I have encountered is that the area where the blade enters the saw gets filled with so much saw dust. I find myself constantly shaking saw dust out long after I have used it. This tool does drain the battery also.
This saw is nice for around the house jobs that I've come across like pruning small trees and I had to use this to cut a couple of small aluminum poles for some martin houses that I built this past winter.
However, it does wear out when doing major construction projects like my church's Easter musical set which I volunteered to help out on this spring. I went through both batteries and actually hit a standstill while waiting on both of the batteries to charge.
Considering the intensity of the project versus the supposed design of the saw, I don't see that as a major strike against it, just something...
read full review »I just bought and used the Craftsman 11579 C3 19.2 volt Reciprocating Saw. It is very handy to use while climbing in a tree without having to deal with extension cords. I can use it one handed while hanging onto the tree or ladder. The one thing I did not care for was the location of the safety switch which is a little awkward to access one handed. I found that you could engage the safety switch and work the trigger and then let the trigger almost all the way off but not quite all the way off without disengaging the safety switch.
I don't know about battery life with this tool,...
read full review »The Craftsman C3 reciprocating saw has performed beyond my 'low price' expectations. It cut through at metal rod, with included saw, with ease and left a smooth edge on both ends.
I use it to cut through two and three inch branches that my hedge trimmer cannot handle.
For those people who complain about the awkward placement of the safety switch, you should be able to just press that button then squeeze in the power switch and let go of the safety button. No need to keep holding the safety button. We are talking about a sixty dollar handyman's tool - not an over priced professional tool. ...
read full review »This is a great saw for the price and a great saw in general. I only have 2 complaints. First, sometimes the vibrations overcome the toolless blade change mechanism and the blade releases mid-cut, but this isn't common by any means, however, it has happened a few times. Second, the 2 blades that come with it are terrible, don't leave the store without extra blades when you buy this, but the fact is that MOST saws come with cheap blades and that doesn't mean the saw is bad, you save money by not having nice blades included.
The Craftman19.2 reciprocating saw has helped me in many situations. Demolition is not the only thing that it is good for. Cutting through nail & bolts is a "snap". Freeing my friends bike from a very good cable lock (he lost his key) was a 2min. job and being cordless, it was possible to do it in an area where there was no electricity. The list goes on & on in the number of ways that I have used it. It's a great product with a great price.
Works great, demolishes everything I need demolished with ease.
I was using the Craftsman 19.2 Reciprocating Saw to cut some two by fours and other random pieces of trim while demolishing a kitchen. It worked really well in the beginning but crapped out halfway through the job. The saw works well and changing blades went quickly but the NiCad batteries don't last long under moderate/heavy use.
Love this saw for clearing brush from trails...don't need to haul out a chainsaw, this guy does it all (within reason).
Great power and price, accepts standard blades.
LED is kind of worthless, and it needs the Lithium Battery for extended periods.
This is a nice cordless saw, but the Battery life is horrible. As soon as you start to drain, you get the classic recip saw GAH GAH GAH GAH from the blade getting caught. The biggest jobs ive put it through were cutting a 4" tree branch and cutting the sheetmetal roof out of an 89 grand am. They both took 3 full batteries each. Like i said, because with slight battery loss its useless. Good for small projects. Have multiple batteries ready. Also about to open it up and delete the safety trigger.
I have got just about every onr of the available tools that Craftsman has made in the 19.2v stuff. Just lock and load and then rock and roll! I've alwaays sworn by the hand tools also. Neither will let you down. Word of wisdom, it pays off to invest in a spare battery for those big jobs on the weekend when using different tools. You'll always have one charged.
