I recently purchased this grinder because my old rayobi was going downhill fast.  I have not had a chance to use it to its full potential yet but my initial opinion is very high. I love the movable handle and the grip. It feels sturdy and smooth. In my opinion you can't beat the quality for the price....

This grinder had good power and worked fine as long as it wasn't under a heavy load. I used this grinder for one hour before it burnt itself up and practically melted the insides. This unit does not have a thermal overload switch so you risk burning up your grinder any time you use it. I will never buy... read full review »

I have used this grinder regularly for about 3 years with no problems.  I've used it for extended periods with wire brushes cleaning up old car frames and other parts, cutting or grinding out rusted old bolts and rivets etc and it's never missed a beat.  It's been dropped and tossed aside a hundred times, I've beat the snot out of it for hours on end and it has yet to disappoint.

I saw some other comments mentioning no safety switch on the trigger, I can say that I have tossed it aside a few times and turned it on inadvertantly but I chalk that up to my own carelessness, not necessarily a fault...

Craftsman 4.5" Grinder

I have been using this grinder for about 2 1/4 years and was fairly satisfied. During recent heavy use it stopped working and I assumed it was a thermal switch but after several hours of cooling and blowing it out it still does not work. Before it quit it gave good service and the grip was very comfortable and made it easy to control. It seemed noisier than most grinders and the cord was on the short side. I will probably replace it with the same model as it is a good unit for the money.

Let me just say that this grinder does a great job - from sharpening mower blades to cutting 5/8" machine bolts, this one will do it. This one has some torque.

In the grind

I bought this grinder about six months ago and have used it extensively. The handle and on off switch are excellent giving better control when grinding for extended periods of time. The 7 Amp motor is excellent and does not stall when putting pressure on grinding wheels to remove large amounts of stock. The grinder also has the power required to efficiently use cutoff wheels without destroying them. Overall I bought this grinder as a through away grinder as I use it very aggressively to remove steel. I will see how long it lasts.

Taint one or 'tother

Used the heck out of this tool. Drive gear bad, bearings burned, spindle wobbles. Still, I got more than my money's worth.

unsafe trigger

The up side to this grinder is it has excellent power. Very comfortable to use for a long time. The down side is the lack of a trigger safety and very short cord. The grinder can be placed on a bench in such a manner that the trigger will engage. It has a very sensitive trigger. I would expect an industrial grinder to be equiped with safety in mind. The cord is so short it is difficult to sometimes reach without nicking cord. I bought this grinder because my last one was excellent. It lasted 10 yrs. It was a quality tool. I'm not sure about this one. I would recommend this grinder to others with... read full review »

great small grinder

I was looking for an angle grinder, and found this one on sale. I had researched a few web sites, and a couple of stores. I had a bottom line price in mind when I walked in and saw this one on sale. It beat the bottom line price I'd found at the other store. I've used it a couple of times, and am very pleased with it's performance. I do like the trigger style switch on the handle over the slide button mounted on top of the body, which was one of it's selling points for me.

LOW LIFE EXPECTED

I have been using the grinder for a few months now and it works well. I especially like the easy adjustment of the guard making it easy to get into some tight places. The only down side is the gear noise it makes when it runs, it is far from a smooth running machine. It does not meet my expectations for a Craftsman tool. The gears are so loud I do not expect this tool to have a very long life before they fail

7.0 Amp 4 1/2" Angle Grinder

I bought this grinder during the last weeks sales and it been a great running tool. I was looking at the more money grinders but they seemed to big to fit your hands. I need a grinder that I can use in one hand. If you want a small grinder to fit in your hands but has 7 amps of power this is your grinder. It spins a 10,000 RPM and has tons of power. Thanks Craftsman!!!

It stands up well under heavy use and is very durable. Has great balance and handles well when working in tight spaces.
