I received the drill as a gift and have never been happier with a 3/8 drill motor. I would put it up against any other major brand name drills. The drill and extra features are fantastic. The LED light is great as well as the built in levels. 300 lbs of torque is plenty for the job site or for a weekender.... read full review »

Great until the batteries went out!

I had been using my drill very happily for about 4 months, until both batteries went out, practically at the same time! The first battery is completely dead - no charge, and the charger says it is a defective battery (there is an indicator light on the charger). The other battery after just being charged,... read full review »

Craftsman 14.4 volt Drill with Auto Lock Chuck Reviews

Displaying reviews 1 - 13 of 19 in total

I bought this drill about 3 years ago to replace a Bosch 12-volt drill after the batteries wore out.  I could not get replacement batteries.  I thought I would try the cheaper Craftsman drill, but I have been disappointed about battery life.  I recently built a wood fence with my neighbor and we screwed all the pickets.  My drill ran down pretty quickly and even with 2 batteries, the charger could not keep up.  With the Bosch drill, I had built a whole workshop with screwed hurricane ties and did not have any trouble with batteries keeping up.  Also, even after a few days without use, the...

What a drill

I just purchased this drill 1/30/09 and what a purchase. I had tried to purchase batteries for my other 14.4V drill - yet they had discontinued them. This drill has twice the power of my other one. Great drill!

LED and batteries failed

Had this drill for 11 months until both batteries died and wouldn't hold a charge. The LED light flickered then died. Returned it for a new drill and am keeping my fingers crossed. Sears exchanged the drill with my original receipt promptly with zero hassles!

AWESOME

I have had this drill for more than a year now, and all I can say is AWESOME! Is powerful, light weight and the two batteries still performing and charging like new! For my house projects is my best friend, I love the automatic chuck feature and the LED light.

Bad Batteries

The drill itself works great. The batteries are terrible. I know batteries eventually die but for $40 a piece they should last longer. After the first month of using this drill the batteries stayed charged for a short time and it just got worse as time went on. I bought another brand of drill today and am going to give that a try. It's too bad because the drill is still in great working condition, it feels like a waste but I'm not going through the frustration of those batteries again.

just okay for real little jobs

I have other cordless drills before and generally their battery life was better. Drill does okay except for the battery life. Even for short jobs, I have to have both batteries fully charged before I start and then take a break waiting on the batteries to recharge, which is a convenient excuse for a nap. The other features are nice like the light and levels. The auto chuck feature sometimes misses and you have to re-lock it. I really wish I had purchased a drill with better battery life and regular chuck. Too bad I cannot return it. Kept it too long before using it on a real household job.

One of the best purchases made

As a new homeowner, I always kept my eye out for the Craftsman club sales. I bought this drill in a combo with a cordless 5 1/2" circular saw. The price was excellent. I have used it innumerable times and it has always been dependable and reliable. The set came with two batteries, which I keep plugged in until use of the tool; I haven't experienced any problems with the batteries; they are interchangeable so if I accidentally forget to 'replug' the drill (which is the one used most often), I can always use the one from the saw. I highly recommend this and other Craftsman products, particulary to... read full review »

Great drill, still working fine!

Have been using this drill daily on my job for over a year now and there has been no loss of performance. Has very good torque and performs every task from driving screws and nuts to drilling holes great. Would recommend this drill to everyone.

Great Drill

I purchased the drill as a Christmas gift to myself. I love the led and other extra features that come on the drill. I've use my drill for all the little projects that turn up in my home, and use it extensively in my garage while working on my wood projects. Best buy for the money.

good drill, bad bateries

I recieved this drill as a gift and the drill itself is pretty good. The only complaint I have is that the batteries both died at the same time and it was almost instantaneous. It was working well for one job and then when I tried to use it 4 days later, both batteries died after only a couple of minutes of use. Imagine my surprise when I put them in the charger and the light lit up saying that they were both fully charged and defective. The drill is nice but the batteries are horrible.

Plenty of torque and battery life

I want to first state I bought a Craftsman Drill that was a 19.2 volt and had no 2 speed feature and only 125in/lb of torque I realised when I was home the drill was weak when working with pressure treated wood I had to return it and got this one instead and the power of this 14.4 volt is about 3x of the 19.2 The torque is 300in/lb and the battery would last much longer under hard jobs and has 2 speeds unlike the 19.2 I bought, in my opinion this is the best one I could buy for the price of $69.99 on sale.

So far so good

I haven't had this drill long, but it is the best drill for the money that I've owned. The features, including the worklight and autolocking chuck, are a definite plus. I am anxious to see how the batteries stand up over time.
