Craftsman 14" High Lawn Tractor Snow Blade —
Well I just wanted readers to know, this blade will push tons of snow... I have used it to do over 54 driveways of all sizes and finishes so far this season and it has done better than expected. I have done driveways that had old frozen snow and I am talking with 16" to 20" inch drifts and no place to stack it. Removed 2" inch thick ice slabs with some effort from cars driving over the snow and compacting it. Plowed up 45% degree inclines too. I have re-stacked frozen snow piles 4' to 5' feet high made by the city plows... It took some time, but moved big piles... No, I don't work for Sears..... Never have.... But I do live in minnesnowta...
I have no doubt that this configuration can remove 24" inches of snow fall, or more, half blade or less at a time. Learn how to use this blade and you can do the same. For deep snow, plow your way in to the snow using your blade edge, blade in the straight position and the tractor at an angle - 45 degree angle, create yourself a path to push the snow to the sides, once you have cleared a blade wide path in to the snow, you can plow like the wind. Push the heavy deep or wet snow (over 8" inches or so)with the blade straight. Then use the blade in the angle positions for cleanup. Fresh snow is no problem up to about 10" to 12" inches you can use the whole blade if you are like me, 320 Lbs. It helps to be a big guy... Otherwise use less of your blade as to not spin your tires and wear out your chains. I mostly plow in fifth and sixth gears at about 1/3 throttle with the blade in the straight position and try to reverse as little as possible, reverse is slow and you will loose a lot of time going in reverse. I do the cleanup with the blade in the angle position. This is the fastest and best way I have found.
Remember to always leave space to stack more future snow!!! Keep this in mind as you plow... Push the snow as far back as you can...
You need to know how to plow. It is not hard to learn to plow efficiently & quickly. Get a dozen plows under your belt and you will plow like the pros. This is the perfect driveway & sidewalk machine, LT1000 with an 18 horse, chains and weights are a must.
Yes, if you incorrectly assemble your cable for the blade to swing from right to left you will break it. Leave all the slack on the cable you can so as to have to depress the pushing lever all the way against the tube frame to just release the blade to swing and it will last you a wile.
Keep your blade pivot points and tractor lubed at all times!!! I wax the blade face often too. This helps a lot!!!
Tighten the tension on the trip spring bolt to a couple of inches. Instructions say 1" inch above the plow edge. My blade trip spring bolt is at about 2 1/2" inches above the plow edge and it provides good tension for ice slab removal, but yet prevents any broken or bent components and the blade trips fine when it encounters something it can not move.
I set my shoes / skies to the same level as the scraper blade edge. This way there is no need to change the shoes when going from blacktop to grass or gravel.
Yes I am using the machine for commercial purpose and it makes me lots of cash... When I first started to plow with this setup, i would get stuck often but before long, I was plowing like a pro.
I hope all this helps you... When I first bought this setup, my local auto parts store laughed at me and said it would be ok for maybe 2" or 3" inches.... Then useless....HA...... Thank God they were wrong...
Sears, I love you guys.....
Thanks for being so good to our active duty soldiers....
I rate this battle tested snow blade as a great tool and great buy....
