First of all, it works just as it should. I am very happy to have it now that it's installed. Getting to this point was a major headache though. The instructions provided with the plow are terrible! The pictures don't match up, it will tell you to reference a diagram that isn't even in the book! It took 2 of us almost 3 hours to get this installed. Also, it would be really nice if they didn't make it so universal.... I had several large steel pieces that weren't even used for my application! Can't they make them more specific and lower the price?!

I did get a chance to use it with 8 inches of heavy snow. Granted, I am very happy I didn't have to shovel all that in my 1/4 mile uphill driveway. But it was slow going. Once you get so much weight it's really hard to move, especially uphill. You have to take small chunks at a time. It was much easier once I finally made a small path to the top and could plow downhill.
...

KurtFreund says "Poor traction reduces effectiveness" about Craftsman 14&#34 High Lawn Tractor Snow Blade

The initial assembly took longer than expected, partly because the documentation did not exactly match the necessary procedure.

The big problem is that the tractor bogs down easily in medium to heavy snow. I added wheel weights and chains, but still I often find the tractor stuck while one of the rear wheels spins helplessly. The first pass down a driveway is particularly difficult, because by necessity the full blade is in use. I often have to use a snowblower to create a lane down the center of the driveway, after which I can build up speed and use only half the blade. It is still too easy to get stuck, though.

I came here today to see if extra weights were available for the back of the tractor, but I couldn't find any. I'm not sure how useful they would be, anyway.

I'm still happy I have the plow attachment, because even with the hassles it is faster than using my small snowblower. But without better chains or some other means of improved traction, I can't give more than two stars.
...

I have only had a one chance to use it so far. It did a good job clearing the snow down to the pavement. If you have an incline I would suggest the snow chains or you will be left out on the street...

It came with extra parts for installing on different tractors which was a bit confusing. They should have separate kits for each. You can probably put it together in 45 minutes if you have the tools ready and have done it before. Otherwise if you are doing it yourself it will take about 2 hours or so to get it all together.

There are no instructions on how to adjust the spring or cable tensions so we will have to see how this goes over time.
...

If you've found this product online, congratulations! To write the review, it took me several tries to figure out what to call it so it would come up: Craftsman snow plow, Craftsman plow, and snow plow. Resorting to my digital receipt, I realized that it's called a snow blade. Fair enough. That's what's in the box... that and a bazillion screws, washers, pins, and miscellaneous cut steel pieces and parts.

It hasn't snowed yet this season to a point where a plow, a snow thrower, or even a snow shovel has been needed. I'm not complaining, actually... it's December 5th and I live in the Chicagoland area... we're already begging for spring by this point. I know; it'll be here soon enough. The point is: I've not been able to actually plow any show yet. So, this review is actually about the packaging and assembly because I venture to say that when it does snow, it will pretty much serve it's purpose. We shall see.

Be it known that this is a universal snow blade that can be affixed...
...

I bought this blade to use instead of the snow thrower attachment that we also own. I was hope that the mounting braket swould be the same, but no such luck. Why replace the snow thrower? Our drive is paved, but the road is gravel. Add to that our drive is all down hill from the road and the 1st 10' is also gravel and you can imagine the stones that go flying.

After reading the other reviews, my son and I went at this very methodicly. All the parts were laid out on a work table. Easy to find and identify. The parts page was taken out of the instruction book and kept on the table. The rest of the book was with the tractor. It took us about 2 hours to assemble and mount the blade. Just a little bit of silicon spray freed the pivot portion of the blade.

Controls all work very easily and are within reach of the operator.

For a test run, I tried pushing some of the dirt that pilied up at the bottom of the drive. No problems at all.

The only adjustment I still need to make...
...

I just recieved my blade the other day and have not had the oportunity to use it yet. After reading the reviews here I was hesitant on ordering it in the first place, but I'm glad I decided to. I know many have complained about missing parts, I believe sears has solved that problem. When I recieved my plow it was in a clean undamaged box. I got it home and opened it up to find everything neatly packaged. The hardware was safely packaged in a double bag. I have read many a review that spoke of the installation time seeming to be extensive. I already knew I was in for a chore when I started. I do not have a craftsmen tractor, but rather I mounted this blade on a 1968 simplicity 717. The whole install took me about two hours. However I rated this blade at four stars because I do believe the materials are a little lite.I would like to see a couple of braces welded to the blade from top to bottom...

I only had to use this a couple of times last winter, but was very happy with the way it worked. Wheel weights appear to be very necessary - I had jury rigged some weights on the back end, which worked ok, but not optimum. Have a big hill to plow in the up direction. As far as how much snow I was plowing, I'd say it was 5 to 6 inches, and pretty wet....

Purchased the plow at the end of the season for my Craftsman YS2400 Yard Tractor. With the Great Lakes all around my home the calendar may say March but the snow keeps falling. Installation is not difficult but it is time consuming. There is a great deal of identifying of parts and bolt types. The instructions are fine, if you read them carefully and decode the Craftsman part names. All in all the install took just under 3 hours. I have most every tool in my garage due to my grandfather being a mechanic for 45 years and that was very helpful. Although a hammer, socket set, wrenches and pliers should be enough to get the job done.

Fortune would have it that I got 7inches of the wet/heavy 'end of season' snow the night I installed the blade. With chains (but no weights other than my 225lbs) the 125ft sloped driveway was cleared in 25 min. I did get stuck at the end of the driveway where the road plow had left a few large chunks but the tractor is light enough that I can swing it...
...

I just purchased the Craftsman YT 4500 with the 14 inch high snow blade. I knew as soon as I opened the box containing the snow blade I was going to have fun installing it to the tractor. (Many Parts) Unfortunately the day my tractor arrived it was about 16 degrees outside so I had to contend with the cold while installing the blade, ouch. Do yourself a favor, organize all the parts and review the instruction manual before you start installation. If you follow the instruction carefully you should be successful, it's challenging. It took me about 3 hours. Everything seemed to be of high quality. I also purchase the tire chains and wheel weights, I do recommed both. I have to tell you installing the wheel weights was a *****. I couldn't figure out how to tighten the nuts inside the cavity of the wheel so I simply reversed the bolts and placed the nuts from outside the wheel. It was much easier to hold the bolt with a pair of pliers from inside the wheel cavity and tighten the nut......

I had no problem installing the plow. It does take some time, but it is well worth it. As other reviews have stated, the handle is a little wide to the left. I am not tall and it takes some work to get to it. I have a 100' semi-circular driveway that goes slightly uphill at the center (where the house and garage is). I have been plowing down hill and raising the blade to race up hill. If I lean back some, it gets enough traction. Mind you, I did not buy the weights or chains. So far, it has taken me 15-20 minutes to do the whole driveway. Well worth the money. Now I am just trying to figure out where to put the mower deck in the garage since you have to take it off. Oh well. Small price to pay....

I wrote a review when I used my blade for the first time
about a week and half ago, but it hasn't shown up.

Any way we received a foot+ of snow, on Tuesday of this week, so went out to plow my drive way and was getting nowhere. I got off my lawn tractor to see what was going on....tons of ice!!!!! I put the tractor away and I was lucky that a neighbor came over did my driveway. I went out the next day after city plow did street and left me a present at the end of the drive. This time my chains got a great grip and I was done in a jiffy.
I'm really happy, except for the lift handle being over the next town! I'm 6ft with long arms and I can just reach the handle when the blade is down....Time for a little torch work as there is plenty of room between the handle and the hood

I installed this on an YT 3000. As the other reviews state: it will take a while to install, and you are left over with a set of brackets. The instructions had errors in it, which took a while of staring at how to attach this thing, before realizing what had to be done. (You don't need all the bolts or all the washers- you reuse the existing ones. And you don't need to take the hood off the tractor.) I put it together over 2 days; it will be interesting to see how to take it off come spring and cutting the grass with this bracket/ receiver hitch on the front. The instructions for removal are poor. As for using it, I was surprised that I could rise and lower the blade with little effort, but swinging it left and right did require some effort. This is defiantly not for short people, as you have to stretch to reach the handle. I find it easier to use then my snow blower, but I will keep it incase the snow gets too deep. So far the snow has only been less than 6" and it handles it with no......

Bought the Craftsman YTS3000 to mow an acre and the 42' snow plow, with wheel weights and chains, for our 90 foot "uneven" asphalt drive. The tractor of course came assembled and the plow assembly was a walk in the park. Just had two days of snow and around 8 inches here in Kansas City. I wanted to buy and add the rubber strip to the bottom of the blade, but didn't want to wait 2 wks. So went to the tractor supply and bought 4 foot of 4" belting, used on hay-baler. I removed the metal strap on the bottom and positioned the belting to hang down 3/4 of an inch, plus I can flip it around later, for another 3/4 strip. Anyway, the belting touches the ground, not the metal strip. Worked like a champ. With the rubber belting, I was able to push the snow off the driveway onto the grass 4 or 5 ft without any yard damage. With the hydrastrate transmission, the plowing was a breeze, and the blade locks in the up position "automatically" when pushing the snow into tall piles, what a great help!
The first box we opened was missing 2 pieces, so we were unable to put together the blade. Of course, we only discovered that after I spent an hour sorting out the mass of nuts and bolts! The store said they would deliver the correct parts, but what they brought was a whole new blade. We then tried to assemble again, only to find the directions practically impossible to follow. The manual refers to the same part by different names throughout, making it hard to figure out what you're being asked to do. The pictures also depict parts without labeling them. We finally got almost all the way through the setup, only to find yet another part that wasn't in the box - and it wasn't on the part list either! We still haven't got it up and running and Sears doesn't offer any in-home setup for this product. For those who dare to buy this I highly recommend setting it up well in advance of any winter weather because you WILL have problems with it....

I normally do not write reviews, this is my first actually, but I have found so many helpful reviews out there, I thought I would return the favor.

I recently purchased this tractor blade [14" high # 07124441000], the associated 30 pound wheel weights and snow chains on Dec 28th, 2010 for my lawn tractor.

I purchased this as we just moved into a house with a long, somewhat flat driveway, and thought this may be a good solution as we are in Spokane, WA and have been getting a lot of Snow!

Second, when I went to the pick-up area of the store, I pulled right-in, scanned my receipt at their pick-up Kiosk, which starts a timer and waited no more than five minutes for my items to arrive and be loaded in my truck... Way to go Sears!

Well, I ma surprise so many people like it. We just had a 10'' powdery snow and the blade can not handle it. You are stuck in the snow once the snow pile up over 2'. I rather use my single stage snow thrower to do a right job....
