I got it when we moved into our new house, the first winter, I thought we had wasted our money, but the next 2 years, it has been well worth the investment. We live in western PA and we have gotten some major snows the last 2 years. I tried it with out the chains and weights and it did ok, but took really long to scrap our drive. After purchasing the weights and chains and yes I did put them on, I didn't use the thinking, that it is the thought that counts, lol. and it cut the job in half.
I am not a mechanic, so it took me a little while to put it together, there was only one problem, and s others have said, the cable for releasing the blade angle is really under sized for the job, it is about 2 inches to short, I got it hooked up at the blade and no matter where I hooked it up and believe me I tried different ways, I WAS NOT LONG enough to reach the handle like it is suppose to do, so when I want to change the angle, I have to get off and manually do it. It is no big deal, but frustrating thinking they do not provide a long enough cable. The first year alone, with all the snow we got, the time and back pain I saved by having it, more than paid for it. We dont have a real long driveway, but it is mostly uphill, so that creates a challenge, but once you get a routine set up, it is very quick and easy.
